Rear brake upgrade
I have a 58 F100 panel. I have read that we can upgrade to larger brake shoes and self adjusting brakes by using backing plates up to 1973. I bought a pair of 1972 backing plates and a rebuild kit with drums, shoes and all the hardware. A tech told me there is a difference between 1 3/4" shoe setup and the 2 1/2" setup. He said I need shorter axles to make room for the wider shoes. Has anyone run into this problem? Thanks and Happy New Year to All.

1968/73 F100 2WD's use the same backing plates.
Ask this question in the 1961/66 forum. Some members have swapped 1968/72 F100 front (11" x 3") and rear brakes.

Rear Brake Upgrade
Thanks NumberDummy,
Yes, I picked up 2 1/4" shoes. I did the same basic swap o nv my '68 Mustang years ago. All I needed was backing plates, drums, shoes and brake shoe retainers (nails). I replaced all the hardware, too. I have new hardware for the F100 swap.
Thanks NumberDummy, Happy New Year, sir.
