Those 428cj and other hi po stuff were the only ones ford put numbers on. Probably not all but it would pay to check.

Someone awhile ago posted a 'so-called' VIN from a 1969 Mustang engine, it made absolutely no sense at all.

1960/80 Passenger Cars VIN's have 11 digits. 1969 example: 9K02R123456

9 = 1969 / K = Kansas City MO Assembly Plant / 02 = Mustang Mach I Fastback / R = 428 CJ / 123456 = Numerical Sequence of Assembly.

The "VIN" that was posted had no sequence similar to this, it was composed of 7 digits and was basically alphabet soup, couldn't be decoded.

Some of the blather I read on this says a partial vin was stamped on transmissions. That would result in gibberish when trying to decode. I never looked for such numbers on my toploader. It was a small block Mustang trans so who knows if it was included in the vin program.

You got me but, they are all of the original parts thus my statement. Same with the entire drive train.

Lots of Ford parts didn't have engineering numbers on them. Just as lots of them didn't have a VIN or even a partial VIN on them. Especially small parts. Engine blocks, Transmission cases yea I can see that. But basic smog parts ? I'd like to see anyone produce smog parts with a VIN number on them. I doubt even the smog pump would have had that. Engineering numbers, yea. But on the tubing and ferrules no. In any case 69cj said the whole system together would demand a premium. not necessarily the individual parts unless they were specific to the 428CJ itself.

Here is a partial VIN stamping on a 1968 390 block that was installed into a car at the Dallas, TX assembly plant ("D"). First number is the model year, second letter is the assembly plant and the last six digits are the car's consecutive unit number.
