Dana 44 Front and Dana 60 Rear

Hey everyone I have a 1975 Ford f250 with Dana 60 in the front and back. I dont like the closed knuckle system in the front, I think its garbage. I can not find any dana 60 open knuckles anywhere here in alaska. But there is a truck for sale that is a 1975 f250 that has a Dana 44/ well the guy is going to check. He already told me it has u joints but will check the BOD number on the axle and tell me if it is a 60 or 44. . Does anyone know if I could just swap this in and drive with out any problems? My f250 in the supercab model and I seriously hate the closed knuckle. U-Joints are so much easier to work on and upgrade. Specially when I want to put the disc brake kit on. Any help would be great. Thank you.

Why would you swap a Dana 60 for a low pinion 44?

because my DANA 60 is a closed knuckle and i cant put the disc breaks on it with out some major modifications and I cant find a dana 60 that isn't closed. You have any suggestions on a fix? the closed knuckle sucks big time. From all the research on this forum they are pretty much known to be weak and a pain in the *** for maint.

The gear ratios will have to be the same, and driveshaft U Joints are different sizes.

Instead of going through the hassle of getting a 75 and switching it to disks, 76 to 77.5 should have disks on them stock.

Any 78-79 front axle should bolt in, assuming your truck is a 2wd cab swap as no 75 supercab 4x4 was ever made.

closed knuckle 60’s were common in early crew’s.

Man I don't know what the hell my truck is now..I put the vin number on another thread to get help telling me what it is. My vin number on the title says it's a f150 /460/4v..in actuality my truck is a 1975 crew cab / 4x4/ 400..I think the guy screwed me pretty proper..it's a nice truck but I don't think it's the same one for the title I got. The tags are good until 2020 and he registered it. But I really don't think it's the truck on the title..the DMV doesn't know the difference though..I would just rather get rid of the closed knuckle and was just trying to see what would work and what my options are..I can't find a Dana 60 here with open knuckles. But there are a couple trucks that are 75-79 that are for sale for under a grand that I want to buy just So I can take the front axle.i just need to know if that will work .

In case you haven't seen this info, you will have a vin# stamped on your frame inside the right front tire on the top of the frame rail.

Regardless of the vin issues and title issues not mtaching....if you post some pictures of the front axle and the driveline (transmission/transfer case/rear axle) we can tell you what you have from the pictures.

It decodes to a 1975 F150 2WD Pickup w/a 460 4V assembled in Kansas City MO

Edit: Moderator has moved this decode to a new thread in this (1973/79) forum.

There were no F150 Crew Cabs. Crew Cabs were F250/350 and all were assembled at the Oakville Ontario Canada truck plant.

There were no 400's until 1977. 1973/76 F250 4WD would either have a 300 I-6 or 360 2V

What you have is a Frankenstein Monster with parts swapped from gawd only knows what.

Thats what I was scared of, it is going to be pretty hard to find the actual parts that I need. I will post some pictures on here when I fly back from the oil fields next week. I really appreciate everyones help. Hopefully I can put some money into it and atleast make it fun to drive.
