'89 7.3idi crank but will not start
Hey guys I need help. My 7.3 died and I can't get it to start. Let me recap what happened. I changed the glow plugs and got it started. While running as it should have been it all of sudden died. My first thought was I run out of fuel being the the gauge doesn't work anymore. I got it primed back up but it still wouldn't start. I checked the fuel shutoff solenoid and its working. I can give it a shot of ether and it still will not start. What am I missing? Any ideas on what my problem might be? Thanks

I got it going but I'm loosing fuel. I found out that it had an electric fuel pump that had lost connection. I ran it down the road and it didn't make it but a quarter of a mile before it died. I wiggled the wire and got it back running. If it's sitting and idling it'll stay running but when you start driving it looses fuel and dies. I'm thinking the electric pump is going bad. Thanks for the help. I'm sure I'll need more help in the future. Thanks again

DO NOT use a cheap electric fuel pump. they don't last when used with diesel. if you are going to use a e-pump, use the facet duralift 40222 pump:

while it says 9 to 11.5 psi pressure, it will keep a constant 4-5 psi running.
the 40285 pump will drop down to close to 0 psi at full throttle.

If you can afford the $100 faucet I would go to Napa and get a new mechanical pump. There only $30 and will outlast any similar priced electric pump.
The only benefit I can see to the electric pump is easy priming. Other than that I see no benefit and just one more connection to go bad.
