'89 7.3idi crank but will not start

Problem with a lot of them, the cam lobe wore, and they didn't get the right "lift". Pump arm would wear, etc. Electric pump is a sure thing
One food for thought thing though, I took the interrupt switch from a 85-89 gas fuel injection ford truck, just in case your in an accident, it trips, and shuts down the electric fuel pump

I just replaced the mechanical lift pump on my truck. I found that it was leaking diesel into the crankcase. Luckily, I was keeping an eye on the oil level on the dipstick and changed the oil when I installed the new pump.
The mechanical pump that was on it was an old one in a parts bin I got when I bought the truck. Now I have a lifetime warranty pump that cost about $30. If you do go with an electric pump make sure you mount it back by the fuel tank select valve and wire it to 12V IGN through an oil pressure switch.

the main reason for going with the duralift besides the fact it is made for diesel, is it will lift diesel 12 foot straight up, so you can mount the pump anywhere
i have mine mounted to the fuel filter housing in the engine bay.
the duralift pump was designed for use on refer trailers that have the fuel tank under the trailer, but the diesel engine on top of the front of the box.

If you get an electric pump it's definitely worth while to get one that is well rated and made for diesel vs. a parts store cheapie.

agreed. most of the reefer trailers, the fuel pump outlasts the engine and trailer.
i have pulled 30-40 year old pumps off of reefer boxes in the yard that are used for dry storage to use on forklifts and other diesel units that had mechanical pump failures in the middle of the roads in the yard.
