How much alteration to a ford explorer rear end is need to get it to fit under my 69 F-100. It looks like a fit but so did the truck rear end that I bought. Will the spring perches be close enough that I dont need to cut and relocate and weld new ones on?

Here is the latest. The 1995 Explorer and Ford Ranger rear ends have disc brakes and will fit the 69 F-100 trucks and The Ranger FX4 is the one to use if you do not want to modify the rear end. The truck version is a spring over, and the Explorer is a spring under. My 69 is 381/2" between the spring perches just like the ranger truck and explorer, but my 1969 F-100 has springs over the axles. The 1995 thru 2009 rear ends for both vehicles is 581/2' long and that works fine with the 69 F-100 trucks. The FX4 Ranger trucks have the 31 splines, 3.25 tube diameters, and 1.32" axles like the explorers. The pre-1995 rear ends for the rangers and explorers are drum brakes.

on the 1995 thru 2009 Ford rear ends are they metric? Will the regular 5.5 bolt pattern of the older truck rear ends (1969) fit the metric bolt pattern of the newer rear ends?

1995 to 2009 Ford WHAT rear ends? Explorer? They are either 5 on 4.5 or the later metric. The F100/150 5 on 5.5 will not fit those.

Ford Explorer rear ends that are metric which,if they have disc brakes they are metric. My guess would be you have to Carrie two spare tires. One for your 5.5" bolt pattern on your front end,and one for your metric rear end bolt pattern. Which is not something I would be wanting to do, so I just need to find a 9" rear end from 1972 down that is not a 9 3/8". I want to eliminate the 9 3/8" rear end that I have since I cant get parts for that dinosaur.

The electric connection is for anti lock brakes.
