Hide-sight 20-20. Did not do either, just used air impact wrench and just got it as tight as I could. Would have been better to do it your way.

Hello, 'It Lives'!!!. Changed the oil and after two cranks the truck fired up. Held rough idle and no back fire. 'Ear timed' the distributor and the idle soothed out. Will run with the points for awhile after setting the dwell and timing with multimeter and timing light. Will go back to the Petronas 1281 electronic points after a bit and when I figure out how to wire around the ballast (Tedster9, I may be looking for more detailed advice).

Hope everything settles down for awhile and we can use it for farm chores and not just mechanic on it. I thank everyone for there concern and input.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

Hello to all on this forum who contributed to the resurrection of Pintlala's "Red Beast". You provided valuable information that helped keep Pintlala going. Unfortunately his pulmonary fibrosis won the battle and he passed away on May 11th. As I was perusing his computer today taking care of business, I saw his posts here. In the last 8 months he has been very limited on the activities he could perform, but working on that truck was one of his main pleasures. Thank you for all your help and encouragement to him even though you were unaware of his condition. The red beast is chugging along with a lot of babying, but my son will take on the mantle of keeping it going. Thanks again.

Hello right back. And wow, so sorry to hear about his passing. But happy to hear that our discussions and all the backs-and-forths for that time were a source of enjoyment.
Hopefully we can keep it going with your son too. Let him know he's welcome here if there are any questions about the truck.
