Both the boot and plenum should be degreased with brake cleaner or carb/parts cleaner, anything else is some what of a gamble.
The OEM boots are weak after the length of time they have been in service.
The plenum opening is weak without the billet reinforcements.
The boot looks properly positioned, but the seal is questionable due to the issues I listed above. You could build a boost leak detector and go that route, or you could call it good and drive the truck.
Since the boots are so old and flimsy, I would recommend new boots and billet rings to properly eliminate the leaks. Some good T-clamps are a good idea too.

Yeah there’s definitely some oil building up. Thanks for the replies. Also when I started it up, I notice the blew smoke is coming out behind or under the turbo as well so I must have a leak. Turns out maybe I didn’t get such a great deal on this truck after all lol.. Oh well, every vehicle needs work sooner or later.

also looking at that picture looks like your missing a worm clamp on the plenum boot.
I went with the Spturboost 360° rebuild kit with the 5x5 SPX billet wheel.

Thanks for the replies guys. After looking at the price of a billet wheel, should I just buy a new turbo and wastegate combo? I found them for around $350 give or take $50. The billet wheels seem to be around $180-200. I’d almost rather spend another $100-150 for a plug n play whole unit.
