Anyone put a c4 transmission in a 1949 f3

I picked up a c4 and I am using the Speedway adapter and was wondering if anyone has gone through this set up before on a F3. Will I have to cut the trans cross member? I have the larger F3 opening but it looks like it is going to be too far forward to squeeze the c4 in there. It is a case fill c4 , depends on where you research, the say a pan fill c4 might be shorter. This is going behind a v8 239 flathead. Any advise with help. Thanks!

The case-fill and pan-fill C4's were the same overall length. The biggest difference other than dipstick tube location is that the case-fill units attached to the bellhousing with the front pump bolts and the pan-fill version attached to the bellhousing with a separate set of bolts. The case-fill bellhousing was smaller and used a 157-tooth flexplate. The pan-fill transmissions used a larger bellhousing intended for a 164-tooth flexplate.

In either case, a C4 can be fit without cutting the taller and more restrictive transmission crossmember in an F1. The transmission tailshaft housing should sit just above and pass over the center of the crossmember. There have been several posters here over the years who have done it. With that being the case, one would think that the gaping maw of the F2/F3 crossmember should allow more than enough room to slide it in there.

Here's a pic of a C4 mounted to an F1 crossmember. Your F3 crossmember should give you an additional 3-4" all the way around it.

My c4 is a case fill with the bigger 164 tooth flexplate. For me it looks like the trans mount on the c4 is going to fall behind the transmission crossmember. Rage ,is that a picture of a flathead and a c4 that you did? I wish mine would line up like that with the crossmember in the factory postion.

Unfortunately, no it is not. If memory serves, I believe that particular unit is mounted behind a 351W.

Wheeler Dealer did a '49 F1 if memory serves me. I know it isn't an F3 but it did give some info, not a lot and they didn't go into much detail either.

Later!
