Gas Tank Location.

I'm taking the gas tank out of the cab of my 59.
Looking for ideas and pictures of what others have done and if they like it.
Please post pictures and thoughts.
I see a 15 gallon tank on e-bay, other idea is a custom tank in the bed.
Thanks.

Under the rear of the bed, you can remove the spare tire hanger and squeeze a tank in there. If you move the very rear crossmember even further towards the rear bumper, it expands your options including an early Mustang tank. There used to be something in the tech section but I'm not sure it's still there. Do a search in this forum as well as the 61-66 forum for more detailed information.

If our frames are the same you can check out my YouTube video linked below. I went with a 16 gallon Mustang tank, I had to put the spacers in because I did not want to remove the rear most cross member to slide the tank in. I had the rear end and suspension installed and was concerned about movement if the rear cross member was removed.

The Panel Trucks had "Saddle Bag Tanks" that were Strapped to the Frame Rails.

Salutations N.D.;

Where can I acquire the Straps that held those tanks in place?

2) 21C-9053 .. Fuel Tank Support / Obsolete

1942/47 Commercial Panel (1/2 ton truck); 1948/52 F1 Panel & F1/F3 Closed Cabs & F3/F5 Parcel Delivery; 1957/60 F100 Panel; 1957/63 F100/350 Open Drive-Away & P350/500 Parcel Delivery.

No Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any. Where you might find any of these vehicles in a junkyard, I haven't a clue.

If you get this done, please post pictures. Would like to move my tank out of the cab, but not sold on the idea of the fuel filler in the bed.

Those weren't Mounted in the Bed.
They were Mounted in a Dished Out section of the Slab Side of the Bed near the Front similar to todays, though w/o a hinged cover.
Look at the '60s trucks & you'll see what I mean.

I've seen some use a 1/2 Barrel Keg (15.5 Gallon) just mounted in the bed, up against the cab. Its cool if your into that kind of stuff. Might be better off finding someone who makes tanks, i know there there is some guy on a facebook group for the trucks makes aluminum custom tanks for these trucks.

You might check this out:
Universal Poly Fuel Tank - UT Series

It's what I plan on using for my '58. According to my measurements you will need to remove the spare tire mounting bracket and, possibly, trim the edge of one crossmember. I haven't ordered it yet so I have no experience except dimensional and from my research.
The 3 main advantages are:
1. It will stand up to modern fuels.
2. It can be converted to an in-tank pump should you decide to use fuel injection in the future.
3. Cost. There are some very nice custom aluminum tanks out there. All in, this costs less than 1/2 of one of those.

Plastic tank

My '57 had a P.O. Installed plastic tank. I second the looked very similar if not the same on the tanks Inc website. It does have a fuel sender in it.
