recommended payload capacity for a 5th wheel like this

I’m educating myself before I upgrade from my pull behind to a new 5th wheel. I recently purchased a 19’ 350 srw with a payload of 3250ish..

What am I in for on a trailer such as this one. says hitch weight of 2307.. so I’ll need to add passengers.. and 5th wheel on top of that to stay within my 3250 payload.. right?

The rule of thumb for pin weight is 20% to 25% of the GVWR. In your case, 20% of 14,000 is 2,800 lbs. As long as you don't pile a bunch of stuff in the truck and your wife goes on a diet, you're within your cargo capacity. Dry weights are pretty useless as very few people travel with no water in the tanks, no propane and no household items (pots, pans, food, bedding, etc.).

Eventually, you'll want to go through a CAT Scale to verify what your actual wet weights are.

Thanks for the info, so on top of the 2800.. I would also add the weight for hitch itself and my occupants ?

Correct. The Andersen Ultimate Hitch is one of the lightest hitches available and it's well thought of here*. Fuel in the truck doesn't count against your capacity as Ford assumes a full tank of fuel.

* - I don't have a fifth wheel trailer but I do own a couple of Andersen products and I think they're good stuff.

Wouldn't hurt to get your truck 100% ready for a trip including passengers and a hitch. Then weigh your truck's front and rear axles separately. That way you'll know how much more weight you can add to each axle, how much total your truck weighs, etc. before you buy a fiver.

With a dry pin weight of 2307, your loaded weight will be up around 2500-2800 depending on the options on the 5er and how it's loaded. With a 3250ish CCC, you should be fine with that 5er. That loaded pin weight will probably not quite fully level a 350. I'm level with a pin weight right near 3k.

The Andersen Ultimate hitch only weighs around 40 lbs, much less than a standard hitch which run 120-200 lbs. I use one and really like it.

The CCC for the truck includes full fluids and a 170 lb driver, so add in passengers, hitch, and anything else in the truck.

Definitely weigh everything at a CAT scale.
