Question Fumes??

I am jsut about to get my single in dual out exhaust run on my 94' 302 F150 and had a question about the exhaust being "dumped" after the muffler with no tail pipes. If i did this, would I have to worry about fumes building up in the cab? I am guessing that would be dangerous because they made tail pipes for a reason.. I would appreciate any views on this. Thanks!!

It is more likely because of the fact that it now will build up under the truck. But it will probably be just fine, just dont sit in one spot for a long time with it running. Actually that goes for almost any vehical no matter where the exhaust exits, just all depends on the wind outside.

Youre right, they make tail pipes exit far back for a reason. I highly recommend not dumping them close to the cab. You might be able to cheat with them, being a pickup truck, but over time you might notice fumes seeping through the weather stripping on the rear window. Just my opinion though.

Alright, I think I am going to go with the single in dual out, take off my catalytic converters, with chrome tips and exhaust exiting out the back. I figure I should get it done right. I have heard that there is a part that you have to install when you take off your catalytic converters that sends your engine the info. I am having all of this done at a muffler shop. How much should this job run me? I have called a place who said they would take off my cats but would have to install that part, and they said that part would be around $150 installed. If I left the cats and jsut got the mufler, new pipes, and tips, it would cost me about $270. Should I spend the extra $150 on the replacement cat part??? Thanks for the info on the fumes. Any more would be great. This is looking to be a $400 project, more than I would like to spend, so any help on this would be great!!

Wow. I called two places about true duals. One said it would cost me $400 and it would be hard on my engine, and the other said they couldnt do it because of the way Fords were set up. I think I will call around some more. I dont want to pay $400... But I would like true duals.... Was that with chrome tips too?

That thing about Fords is crap. I would find a different shop. Any shop worth their weight can run duals. Also, technically its not legal to remove a working catalytic converter, and most shops will not touch it. You should think about adding a high flow cat. That way, you remain emissions legal, you make the govt happy, and you help cut down on harmful emissions. Everyone wins. I dont have any idea how much duals would run you, I have never had them installed.

I thought about that, but high flow cats are expensive and restrict a lot of sound. We don't have emissions testing, so I'm not too worried about it. And I would rather not put something on that could get clogged up and have to replace again...

ANyone know how much I should expext to pay for a single in dual out flowmaster muffler, new pipes, Chrome tips, Cats cut off (which I found a shop that will do it) with the chip that reads as if I had cats cost me installed? I don't want to get ripped off. Being only 16 people have been trying to do that (like when I bought my tires...grr...) Thanks for the help!

And also they said the chip or whatever that is needed when Cats are taken off will be $150. Is that a good estimate?

You don't need anything special when your cats are taken off... your sensor is on the y-pipe between the manifolds. Just have them weld it on the crossover pipe between your duals. I think it would be easier and cheaper to just chop off the second cat and run a SI/DO FLowmaster 40 series with tips out the back. Be plenty loud too.

On my truck, the first cat serves as the y- pipe for the exhaust. The O2 sensor is in a crossover pipe just before that. Seems to me you could cut off the first cat and everything else and weld in a straight pipe from each of the pipes coming from the manifolds

It runs around $200 true duals cat delete with tips of your choice and you can have turbo or glasspacks oval or bullet design around here. Just a thought I don't know what your intention was with the turn downs but as an idea you could have them install the pipes straight back but higher and as the pipe approaches the middle of the bumper have it turned down just enough so it throws the exhaust out the back but enough so you can't see it for the bumper. kinda odd trying to explain do you know what I mean?
