Hitch Sleeves are a Joke, Ford

My 450 has two sleeves. It is rediculous trying to put my Yakima 4 bike rack on the truck. I can't convey enough, frustration these 2.5 and 3" hitches cause. Both my '19s didn't come with a pin or a 2.5-2 sleeve.

I don't really care if Ford moronengineers want towing bragging rights. I never bumper tow anyway.

I'm not sure what a pine is. If your truck didn't come with sleeves then that's on the dealership. It's supposed to come with one or more sleeves. I didn't like dealing with the sleeve so I bought a WDH with a 3" shank. Good luck finding a bike rack with a 3" shank.

+1! My '17 350 (SRW) came w/: 3 - 2.5, 2.5 - 2, a pin and a clip.
the 2.5-2 reducer is a PIA though - its not flared like the 3 - 2.5 so it slips inside and is a PIA to line up and insert the pin.

I am VERY happy that I got a heavy duty hitch.
if are really that frustrated, buy a set of adapter sleeves and have them welded to you bike rack.
it wouldn't take a lot of weld and it would solve you problem

My 2017 came with both sleeves. Maybe glue the 2.5" adapter (or both of them) in the hitch? Silicone would be plenty strong to hold them, and not fail from the bike rack stresses.

if not to the bike rack they can simply weld some lips to the end of the reducers so they wouldnt slip back when installing the racks... had that problem with my 2.5-2" reducer... it was an aftermarket one and not a factory one that slipped around easily... very annoying when trying to mount my 12,000lb winch.. couple minutes with the welder adding some tabs to the end of the sleeve solved the problem..

Edited ..... Pin not pine.

My point is that with all the technology and function we gain with these new trucks, we take three steps back with something stupid like the sleeves.

Yes, '19s don't come with the 2.5-2. 350 or 450.

In my business, time is money. I wish the 2.5 and 3" receivers we're optional.

From reading here, 2017 came with them, 18+ doesnt.

For your bike rack, maybe get this. You can leave the 3" pinned, and then attach your rack. I have one, but not great for trailers, as it lengthens the chain distance. I actually tried to use a friends trailer, neither the chains or pigtail reached (note I also have a weight distribution hitch, which this lighter weight trailer doesnt use, so distance is exaggerated by the hitch as well).

Brandon4, I agree that time can be money, but aligning the sleeves doesn't amount to a 1/4 hour. if you are in the bike rack business, I doubt you need a Superduty. 😜
Break out the welder and solve the issue. If you don't own one, then buy some JB Weld.
You guys that aren't getting sleeves AND an extra long pin are being taken. They come with the hitch. I walk through dealer lots all the time and marvel why they are left in the new trucks to be stolen.
BTW, ALL HD truck manufacturers use sleeves... not just Ford.

at least the OEM ford sleeves have the lip so aligning the pin is easy. I agree, buy a cheap sleeve and weld it to the bike rack. or throw the bikes in the bed......... or throw the bikes in the garbage.

theres no lip on the 2.5 - 2 inch sleeve...only on the 3 - 2.5.
because theres no lip on the 2.5.-2 inch sleeve it slides in/past the pin hole when you insert anything into the receiver...its a complete PIA!

My 2018 F250 came with a 2.5 to 2.0 adapter sleeve and a pin. The sleeve is a pain, and rattles a lot. So I purchased a 2.5 inch shank for my WD hitch. Problem solved.
