2007 4x4 Expedition switching to 4x4
I posted this to the Expedition forum but no real answer. I've made a video I've posted at the end of this post.
Many times after starting the truck, and going into
Drive, and sometimes even after just stopping at a traffic light, I get the messages, "Shift delayed. Pull forward" and "4X4 shift in progress". I'm not changing the 4wd selector at all. I'm in 2H.
I've noticed sometimes when it does that, if I'm turning in my driveway, it feels like it's binding. No sounds though.
So I tried to go into 4L. It said to put it in neutral. I did. Then it says pull forward. I did. Then says to put in neutral. Back to pull forward. Over and over. It did not go into 4L. Sped up and it says I gotta be below 3 mph.
I thought it wouldn't go into 4H but it did after a few tries.
Here's a video of me going thru the different settings and what my truck does. It went into 4L finally but it seemed the same as 4H. Until I get some ice or snow I won't know if it's really in either.

Just played with it again. I never get an error. It too a few minutes but it claimed to be in 4L but watching the tach and speed, it was the same as 4H.
However I'm pretty sure it went into 4H cause I was on a heavily salted parking lot and floored it, and it didn't spin like it did in 2H and 4A.
If it's not getting to 4L, I don't understand why I don't get an error. I'll read the codes tomorrow but there's nothing on the dash about getting a code.
If it was the transfer case actuator motor, I would think it either works or doesn't work. It does work as it does go into modes other that 4L. If it were the position sensor, it would never be satisfied it's in 4L. Confusing.
