Flooded truck courtesy of Isabel
I moved my truck to my inlaws the day before the storm to avoid fallen trees and she got flooded. Water got up to half/3 quarters the tail lights. I want to try and save her. I have it gutted right now - seats, carpet, etc. I gave it a good fresh water bath, degreased the engine, etc. I do not think it infiltrated the engine. I was planning on replacing all the wiring. I do have some questions which is why I am here consulting the best Ford truck experts I know. What do I need to look out for (rust of course - do I need to wait for it to appear or can I head it off at the pass)? What are some must-dos? Where can I get parts (complete wiring harnesses, seat foam, etc.)? Any information and insight is greatly appreciated. Even though it attacked my baby, I was much more fortunate than most people around here. Feedback please. Thanks

Sorry about your truck. Depending on the year of your truck, you may be able to find some parts at a local salvage/recycling yard. You can also purchase a new carpet kit from the internet (I picked one up for $115 shipped) as well as other misc items that were damaged from the flood.
Good luck. I'm sure that she can be saved.

I was informed that she can't be saved by my local Ford dealer (owner was here during the '33 storm) unless I committ to life-long breakdowns, body work, and other various problems. Salt water apparently has everlasting effects. The tranny had nothing but about 9 quarts of seawater in it when I drained it. Didn't even have a red tint to it. Everything is already corroding and rusting terribly. When he realized how upset I was at the thoughts of giving her up he patted me on the shoulder and said "I understand. But it's like death, sometimes you just have to let go." So I'm afraid I'm looking for another truck. I'd love another 5 speed I6 if anyone knows where I can pick one up. Thanks guys.

My condolences for your loss You may be able to find some good deals on either Ebay or www.autotrader.com. I'm sure there are some out there with low miles.

We saved lots of the Fairbanks flood victims by getting them drained and started right away.
The bodies were almost awlays a dead loss. That mud and the water it held caused lots of rust and corrosion. People bought those things for a song, and got rid of them as things started going wrong. Your better off letting it go and looking for another.
