I’m not going to lie...I love having auto hubs. But I really worry this is going to be another poor design that Ford can’t easily fix. If slapping manual hubs on and capping the vacuum system solved it, I’d install them tomorrow.

Interesting that both Warn and Mile Marker stopped offering a manual hub conversion in 1996.

This design has been in at least the 11th-13th gen trucks. My own dealer told me they've had many customers with the trouble. I guess Ford figures it's more cost effective to replace parts, than design a better system. Once it's understood how it works, it's not too bad to fix, but why not design a system with better reliability.

Gah, I have this just starting too. Second round. Called and I was told not til the end of January for the check valve to be in. So another part on backorder. She said the part number changed from FL3Z-3A788-A to FL3Z-3A788-B.Going to install the aftermarket one for now. Does anyone know if this and the IWEs are part of the 5 year / 60 mile? I'm at 44K on my '15

There would be a lot to change out if they were available, wheels would be a big one.
I had a 2005 F350 PSD that had what I felt was the best of both worlds. You could leave the hubs in Auto and let the vacuum system handle the engage / disengage or you could rotate the hub to the Lock position and they remained locked. As the F350's got older, the rubber vacuum hoses going to the front wheels were known to get a bit porous. No problem, just lock the hubs manually and leave them like that until you had a chance to replace the hoses. Not only that, they had a built in warning system for hose condition - when the hub hoses started leaking the loss of vacuum to the heater controls would cause it to only blow hot air out of the defroster vents.

I had the auto lockers on a '94 F150, never a problem. On my '97 F250HD, the right front was replaced 3 times, that, and in conjunction with a bent frame from the factory, I was done with that one as soon as the Superdudes came out, with manual hubs and Tcase. Never a problem with them.

Well, the dealership just called and they “found a vacuum leak”. I’m having a bunch of other work done, so won’t get the truck back until Wednesday at the earliest. I’m really praying this fixes the problem.

And for those of you that asked, this TSB is covered under the 60,000 mile warranty.

Did they say where the leak was?

Nope. I’ve learned not to ask the guys behind the service counter too many details. It’s hard enough for them to find recall and TSB info. I do need to confirm the Tech looked at the bearings (last few steps of the TSB) to ensure they didn’t stop mid-inspection.

Just got a call from the dealership that my truck is ready. Sounds like they replaced just about everything. The valve and IWE system.

It’s nice and cold here, so tomorrow morning will be a good test. I’ve never had any repair on that system last more than a week, so if it’s not fixed then I’ll know soon.

Will report back in a few weeks...

For what it’s worth, here’s the repair report. Can’t say for sure the truck drives better, but a small vibration in the brake pedal is gone. I thought it was from my A/T tires, but I hit the brakes hard a few times on my drive home and the tire sound is there, but not the brake pedal vibration. Fingers crossed...

Thanks, hopefully you're good to go after that. It looks like they replaced wheel bearings too?
