Transfer case swap question

My truck has a NP 208f tcase in it and it is bad, can I swap a np205 right in or are there different lengths or mounting points? My truck is an 85 f150 4x4

You can bolt it directly in place. However, the 205 is solid cast iron and may need an additional brace for its weight. All (except divorced) np203, 205, 208, bw1345, bw1356, and bw4407 will bolt to any six bolt Ford 4x4 trans.

The 205 was never offered in these trucks, so some custom mounts and shifter work will be needed. You may need driveshaft work also. It will bolt up to the transmission like the other poster said.
