2003 Ford Expedition xlt 4wd

I have a 2003 Ford Expedition xlt 4wd 5.4l and I’ve been noticing when I am on highway and going highway speeds and when someone slow gets in front of me I slow down and get over once I get over I give my car some gas to speed up seconds after I give it gas there is a thud and the whole dash shakes and you can feel it throughout the car when it makes the thud sound. Engine and transmission mounts look good to me. Any idea what this could be?

It could be the u-joints are worn which would cause the thud and also the driveshaft to be unbalanced.

U-joints will normally give a vibration before you start getting the harder hits. It may be your converter locking up. Does it only happen at highway speeds (60-70), does your rpms drop when it happens? Heavy or light throttle? How repeatable is it (every time or random). It could also be the awd trying to kick in so pulling the fuse may help you diagnosis that.

it only does it on highway speeds. I haven’t seen the rpm drop. Heavy throttle it’s it it’s just when I put light pressure on gas and after couple seconds it makes the thud sound. It happens almost every time but it varies. Which one is the awd fuse?

That's a lot more than a simple thud. Every time it made the noise I could see the image shake so it's got to be something getting slammed pretty good. You checked both motor mounts and the tranny mount to make sure the rubber hasn't broken away from the metal?

I’ve looked at them and they seemed fine but I am gonna take to mechanic to look at them to get second opinion on them. When it first started to do it I took it to mechanic and he said that the transmission was going out and he really didn’t gave me a clear explanation why

Yeah I'm betting with the light throttle your engine is revving a bit and then slamming into gear on the shift. If it was me before I did anything I'd check the transmission fluid level and then if its full change the trans fluid with a good synthetic. There are some how-to's on here in the transmission section.
