Born Tough: Inside the ford factory

If you have a chance, check out the ford tough show on History Channel tonight at 10. It's an inside look at the making of the F150 at the Michigan plant. Pretty neat to see how they are made.

Watching it right now. The retooling of the plant to make aluminum bodies must have cost a pretty penny.

They said it only took 72 hours to change everything out. It had to been pretty quick and well planned. You just can't stop making any product for much longer.

I watched and recorded it for when my kid comes home for Christmas. Pretty impressive.

What I want to see is how engines / transmissions are assembled and tested.

I watched it last night on the Apple TV History Channel app.
Very impressive to say the least.

From what I observed:
72 hours to gut the old line down to the building shell.
30 days to install the new line before the first aluminum body model rolled off.
Composite adhesives are used and when heated, chemically bond with the adjoining body panel.
Heat spot-welds are a thing of the past as well as dust and metal marble debris.
Aluminum scrap is 100% recycled in-house

Quality control and management from the bottom up are proving a winning combination. Managers are there to facilitate floor worker ideas and feedback to help improve quality and work place conditions.

Would have liked to see more of the overall assembly process, yet that’s the logistic fan-boy in me shining through.

Agree with others. Proud to roll in the blue oval and support the entire family.

Watched it on the History Channel, very excited to get my '19 as soon as it's built. Really shows you how well these things are made and the attention to detail they get despite being mass produced. Also love the fact that the good folks in Detroit are assembling it for me. After decades of running my Ford trucks into the ground and working the bejesus out of them, this one will be a prized garage queen with some nice mods.
