86 E350 24’ Camper Fuel Pump
Getting as titled, but with a bad fuel pump. Probably bad gas too.
the camper portion will have been removed, so I’m guessing fuel pump access will be easy. Thoughts?
’86, E350 with the 460/C6 and carb’d.
From what I’ve read, it has more than one pump, including in-tank.
1. If I install an in-line electric pump, would it pull through the others? Anyone done this?
2. Could I run it off a gas can instead? I just need to be able to move it 3 miles from a storage yard to my place.

1. It should pull through the others if screen in tank is not plugged. But the gas possibly being bad, not a good idea.
2. I have used a boat tank strapped to the roof before. could run it through the mechanical pump if it has one or, straight to the carb and it will gravity feed carb once you put fuel in the line running into the hood. It won't have as much speed with the gravity flow but it will work.

My fuel pump is going south and I’m fixing to drop the tank this weekend.

You should be able to deliver gas the the carb with an external tank as previously suggested. If you have an assistant they could squeeze a boat gas primer bulb to actually pump gas to the carb.
The circuit that supplies power to the in tank fuel pump is rather complex. Sure it’s the pump and not a wiring or some other issue, like the fusible links, inertia switch, oil pressure switch, fuel pump relay, or fuse #18?
Ulimately, after all this time, you’ll likely have the drop the tank to clean it out. I suspect I’ve got some sediments in the bottom of my tank.
