7.3l diesel fuel line parts schematic (short bed)

I had a hard time finding these schematics, so I thought I'd post them. They are for a short bed 4x4 (2002), so the frame rail tubing will not be the same as the more common long bed. They are certainly not the easiest to interpret but its all FordParts.com could provide me.

Well thanks for asking. I was changing the long brake line to the rear (it perforated and I lost my brakes.) and I noticed a very rusty line at the rear of the fuel tank on the frame rail which Im trying to identify so I can buy a replacement. Its impossible to see clearly because its obscured by the tank but I know its gotta be fuel related. These schematics are not helping me.

Could it be for the axle vent or old brake line? If I remember correctly the fuel lines are stainless going down the frame to the tank and change over to soft line around the rear cab mount.

If you haven’t done the Hutch/Harpoon mod yet, drop the tank then just delete the stock fuel line and replace with 3/8” fuel injection line. I did triple clamps off tank nipple then double clamps to the inlet of the pump.

Here is the rusted fuel? line. Its the same color as the frame rail.

Here is shot from farther away for reference.

Here is the vent tube. When I shake the rusted line this vent tube moves in tandem.

I just replaced all the brakes lines from the low pressure fuel pump rearward. Anyway, that is way too large to be brakes.

Well, it would suck but you could always drop the tank and redo that line in hose, it would be cheaper and if that’s the line that goes to your fuel tank you have to drop the tank again anyway.

I may have no choice. But I gotta burn all the fuel in it first.

Only things that run down in that section. Are the brake line, and harness on the inside and the parking brake cable comes through the cab mount and around the leaf spring mount. This pic shows where the fuel lines end. You may have to trace it up the frame to see where it goes.

Hmmm....me thinks it must be one of those two fuel lines. Down comes the tank...again.

Unless the fuel lines were changed, they wouldn't be rusty. The factory lines are stainless and still bright on my truck which is a 01. Its about the only thing that isn't rusty on mine. I even had to replace rivets on the leaf spring mounts due to rusting.

Its too large to be a brake line. Gotta be fuel.
