Just sold my F250 V10. Bummer. 2008, 140,000 miles, hard working truck, never saw a garage, northeast so it saw winter/aubse. Always took care of it, regular maintenance by good folks.

My opinion....OUTSTANDING. The ONLY problem I ever had with that engine was the alternator went on my and I needed a tow...that's it. In fact nothing ever went wrong with the truck in general with the exception of things that were supposed to break...brakes, rotors, tires, blah blah.

So what am I going to buy next...FORD silly. Just ordered a 150 since I don't need the capacity of the bigger brothers, have other vehicles for that now.

I can say without question that the $500 upgrade for the V10 when I ordered my old 2008 F250 it was the right decision, quiet, powerful, dependable, smooth...good job Ford!!

 

 

 

He was kind of shifting gears on you. He started out talking about how he loved his V10, then said he's getting a new F150 and summed it up with he loved his V10 (best $500 upgrade). He didn't mean a V10 F150. That would be cool though!

 

When the V10 was offered along with the 5.4 in the superdutys it was a $600 option to upgrade to the V10. That $600 has to be the best ROI of any option ever offered by Ford.

 

 

I have to say, that even if I only have 60K miles on my V10, it's 18 years old (manufactured in October 2000), and it still runs like the day I brought it home from the dealer. With one exception: The tune from 5-star made it even better.

Sad to see it go, but it's not getting used by me, and I'm just waiting for something major to go wrong with it. Time to get a 3-valve manual

 

You've got that right. I did it twice when I ordered my 1999 and my 2007.

Mine has been 100% trouble free until last Friday. Decided to drive it to work since the pheasant and quail opener is next weekend. Wanted to make sure all systems were go. Well, my dash lights were dim and when I got to work the battery light was flashing. Having had this happen on my 1999 I knew it was the alternator. I made it home from work, barely, almost coasting into the garage. Picked up a new alternator from the dealer along with a new belt and 1 hour later I was back in business. Still never stranded with 2 V10's dating back to late 1998.

 

Can't imagine why anyone would put the 5.4 in a Super Duty. IMO if you only need the 5.4 you don't need a SD.

Can't believe it was a $600 option though, that's a no brainer.

 

 

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough, the V10 was ordered on my older vehicle, not the newer. I'll edit for clarity's sake.

 

Find it interesting several of you have had alternator failures. My V10 has been great but has had 2 alternator replacements in 210,000 miles. Obviously this has nothing to do with the engine. Out of the fleet of vehicles (Fords/Lincoln) I maintain for my family, I cannot ever replacing any other alternators.

 

Did the replace the entire thing including the voltage regulator?

I find that rebuilt alternators usually are still running around with a faulty voltage regulator that happens to work "on the bench" but fails when it gets hot.

I went through this with my '96 T-bird which uses the exact same alternator as my F250 - but never had to change it on the F250.

 

I just bought a 1999 F250 v10 with a 136k miles for a beater truck. I love the truck so much I just sold my 2016 Toyota Tundra and drive the 99 exclusively. I dont know why but I love my v10 F250. I sure hope I dont have any issues with it.

 

You probably also love not paying that hefty 2016 payment. Having the extra cash can make an older vehicle seem a lot better. Take good care of it an it'll run a long time. Do some research on the 99s if you haven't yet. The engines are slightly different in a few ways vs newer 2v V10s.
