pleasant conversation and melty-management device

So, was happy to take previous owner of my 89 i-6 300ci van out to lunch yesterday. He's recovering from a stroke so can't climb into van so we went in my other car. Talked about baseball, kids, etc. but eventually we got on about the van. a) he changed the oil every 1500 miles b) every so often some "multi sensor computer thing will melt and leave you stranded. You have to remove the engine cover to get to it.". It happened so often that he actually carried a spare and a ratchet wrench in the drivers side door baggie. I'm an idiot and I think I may have thrown it out. I think it was a MAF someting or another. He said it was worth $80. Can someone clarify what he was talking about c) that he had the 3 speed transmission rebuilt in '08 for $675 installed and I should check the auto trans fluid. Always good advice, auto trans fluid looked full to me when I got home.

Lunch was two philly chicken sandwiches and cuban coffee. Nice.

Maybe take the van by to him and let him point it out. Its your best bet. Once you can describe where its located and post a pic we can help you out. Don't forget to take him a 6 pack and some pizza for the trouble

Okay, fine. Be that way!

I spent about ten minutes last night trying to research 89s to see if I could figure out something useful, and came up empty. Decided not to post anything, since I didn't have anything useful to post.

And then YOU have to go and post up the easy solution!

Maybe it's the TFI module. If so, a heat conducting paste, aka heat sink grease, needs to be applied or it will burn out.
