Well, I just bought a 2013 Lariat 3.5 V6 twin turbo and it has HID headlights. They are chrome edges which I would prefer a smoke or black version.... But BOY , is the light output great.. Looking on e-bay and just thinking ahead, I don't see aftermarket light cases with HID sockets. It appears most are the old twist lock socket and you can buy different HID bulbs with a remote starter ( as compared to the factory case mounted unit..... I don't need them right now, but if a bulb burns out I am considering buying smoke cases with aftermarket HID bulbs instead of a factory design HID bulb for the old chrome case.... Question is, who has the AFTERMARKET HID bulbs with remote starter and opinions of them / light output / life ??

Why do some of the aftermarket cases with HID lights say you cant install them on the OEM HID equipped truck ? Light socket different, or bigger problems ?

I believe what you are looking for is the Raptor/FX2/4 HID headlights from the 13-14

 

that would be nice, but the price is x10 what aftermarket housings cost.......... Just thinking at this time.. Sure like the factory HID light output.

 

Trucks with factory HID lights send different power to the lights compared to the halogen lights. That is why people that convert from halogen to the factory HID need an adapter harness. This is also why some say that you can't use factory HID with them.
If you have the factory HID, you aren't going to get much better. The aftermarket options usually don't compete and have issues leaking. The few exceptions are the ones that use the morimoto HID projectors which are better than the Fords and a better bulb. But morimoto is one of the companies that actually cares about light output compared to a lot that just slap together chinese crap.

Your best bet would be to just bake the lights apart and retro your HID's.

Have been reading about LED head light bulbs. Many say they will be standard on all cars/ trucks by 2030. They fit into the OLD STYLE sockets, not the NEW HID case............ I guess im still wondering what is the difference in the wires between the present Halogen and HID setups from the factory... Somewhere it starts out as 12 volts and then cranked up at the headlight.... if you went back a couple feet from the light and put the OLD ELECTIC PLUG onto the wires, wonder if you could use the OLD type BULB socket that would accept new LED lights ? ...... heard one comment that the software in the computer is "different" on the HID equipped trucks.... don't understand what that would be ?

 

For one you do not have a high beam wire that will accept the voltage to run even an led, since the shutter is very low amperage. Auto manufactures in general use the smallest wire they can get away with.
Still trying to figure out why you are wanting to retro lights in that are inferior to the lights you have now. If you don't like the chrome keep yours eyes open for a set out of a FX on Ebay or check your local Pull A Part, my buddy just scored a set from there here local with the harness for $500
