Around here I pick up complete 1987 and older XJ6s regularly for cheap, I think I have had about a dozen now. It looks like there may be enough room on the hub to go to 5.5 , they come with a 5 x 4.75 pattern and can only be plugged and re-drilled if you want to change pattern because the space between the studs is used to bolt on the brake rotor. I used adapters to go from the 4.75 to 5" bolt circle to keep my 1941 Cadillac wheels. It rides so smooth you would never know the adapters are there.

So far on the jag I had located on clist, they won’t reply. Irks me for an ad to show but no reply after 3 calls and 2 emails.
Rant over.
Im looking at other options one is Lexus if I can’t find a jag which appears to be the best/easiest install.
Guess I will finish rebuilding my 302, anything out of spec and it becomes a 331.
Thanks for the info and I will keep searching

Lexus also looks like a nice swap candidate, only issue I saw is the lower ball joints are not replaceable and each lower control arm was around $250 the last time I checked.
Jags are still around here, just picked up this one on Saturday.

*****, Folks,
I see 2 xj6 with in 200 miles of me (NWPA). One in Michigan at $700 and one for 1200 not sure where. So I guess they are out there, Just maybe not in your area at this time. No I am not planning on this any time soon But will this same jag IFS fit the 52-56 for frames? Also What are some of the major things that problem ares to watch for and other parts needed to complete this swap? Also see folks say that they rebuild these first. Is that pricey too. This must be a pretty cost effective option compared to buying a "kit" set up in a nice neat package?
Sorry for the questions and I am not even building a truck, but I do file this information away!
Regards,
Chris

Chris,
Others have put the Jag in post 1952 Ford trucks. There is a little more work required since the 48-52 truck frames are "pinched in" from the 34" width to 32" width in the engine bay. This means altering the frame or the crossmember of the Jag to get it to fit in the later trucks since they are a constant 34" frame width.

Bill,
Thanks! Makes sense that I see the Crown Vic IFS is used on the later trucks (56 ish)? Must be a much better fit?
Regards,
Chris

This is a photo early in the process on my 56 f100. It is a soft mount, and as you say the frame did need to be notched.

$400 is a good price. That's what I paid for my 79 Jag XJ12. I used the IFS and IRS, wheels, gas caps, powersteering pump and brackets, and a few interior pieces. I sold a few parts off the Jag and scrapped the rest. You can buy ball joints, tie rod ends, and reman rack and pinion gear from Rock Auto (on line). Brake parts are available from most parts houses and poly bushings are available from Energy Suspension. Ebay is also a good source. If you soft mount don't forget the lower steering shaft. I used part of the steering column too.
Hope this helps.

This is some serious gore for bizzare people like me who actually like to keep the whole jaguar.

By the by, it's a little off topic but has anyone ever kept the V12 on their build? I love those motors to bits, but i'm not sure if they'd fit in a bonus built.

Bjorn,
Do you install the assembled Jag IFS by sliding it onto frame from the front end of the frame rails or did you install the bare crossmember from below and then install the upper A arms?

Hi Bjorn,

Checked out your site, nice build you have going on there. Very professional. Beautiful truck.
Yes, I do drive a four wheel drive, actually have five of them. But that is not my intention on my 56. I liked the looks of fellow member Aussie 53's build and how he placed the Jag ifs on his 53 f100. He was kind enough to answer some questions I asked him via email about it. I checked out his build photos closely and used them as a guide.
Three reasons I did it this way: 1. I wanted the soft mount. Pages of discussion on soft vs. hard mount in the H.A.M.B. lots of opinions both ways. I like the soft mount better. 2. I want the truck lower than stock but not too low, this is the height I wanted. 3. The inner fenders do not need to be cut, the upper A arms will not be visible in the engine compartment. A lot of extra work I suppose, but to get it the way I want it I don't mind.

Best Regards,

B
