Adding Seat Belts to the '57
So as I'm finishing up the interior and waiting on the seat belts to arrive (already weeks past est from FL), i was curious as to what y'all did to install the mounting plate above the shoulder ? There really doesn't seem to be a good place to mount this bracket.
seems like there is a big space right where the pivot point would mount... for average peeps.... what say y'all?
here is the plate that comes with the 3 point seat belts for '57-60 f100 from seatbelts plus
and here is where i think it may fit the best... just a few inches above the shoulder so it does not come across the neck (under 6 foot).
I need to fab a plate that curves and sits behind the horizontal braces so it does not interfere with the head liner... prob can rivet into place once shoulder plate is welded on the curved insert

I used 3/16 flat plate steel stock
The width of the inner curved part. Bent it to match the curve. Welded the nut on the back of the stock and popriveted it in place. It holds strong and will remain in place when I put in the headliner. I’m just under 6 feet tall and it lines up well over shoulder

Great fab.... i like that idea.. using the horizontal brace still providing the strength and flush with the side headliner .. great job. I was thinking something similar, using a solid wedge and welded to the horizontal brace and using a longer bolt.
Here is what i have now... following seatbelt solutions instructions... pop riveted and it seems pretty secure since it it behind the “curve”. Welding is always better but when it’s all sinched down, under pressure the curved horizontal brace should provide the same strength whether riveted or welded.
Will improve my installation soon.

I put seat/shoulder belts in mine right after I bought it in '77. I drove tow trucks for years back then & saw things that only police & paramedics saw, windshields shattered by skulls, steering wheels mangled by chests, etc. The gory part was the chunks of scalp with hair & blood stuck in the busted windshield. Please don't put lap belts only on the driver's side!! A piece of 2" plate, 3/16" x 2" x the length of the factory brace, curved to fit behind it, will help. I don't really think it's a brace, but you get it. 1/4" would be better!
