Font Axle Seal? How Big of a deal is this?

So I was poking around under my 06 F250 this weekend and look at what condition I saw what I believe are the front axles seals popping out? I will attempt to add pictures for your reference and advise as to who I should have fix this, what exactly is wrong and how much should I expect to pay. Also is this a big deal? I have no idea how long ive been driving like this. what can happen if left alone?

It is just a dust cover. No big deal. Mine were toast for a long time before I rebuilt the front end.

Yes. Or cut them off but you'll be hard pressed to look under any of our trucks without seeing the signature "axle hula hoop." You could take the time to replace it, but you'll be frustrated when the new one pops out in a few weeks time as they're known to do.

Considered replacing mine when I did my brakes, but I don't use it enough to worry. Glad I read this, didn't know the new ones were known to pop out as well.

Use a pair of side cutters and remove them if they are flopping around. There is a dust seal with an updated part number but you need to dig into the front axle fairly deep to be able to change them.

On my 2004 them dust seal went bad at like 18k, then again around 40k. Dealer replaced them the first time after that I cut them off and NEVER put new ones in. That was 120k ago and I never had a problem yet

Your right guy's and I actually took permatex black and spun a small bead all the way around those boots and pushed them back in let it set up overnight and that was six months ago and they are still in . Try it
But more so is look at your front axel u-joint, that cap is solid rust not much grease in those. What do you guys think?

They have a newer version of the dust seal ("hula hoop") that is actually better. You have to remove your axles to replace them so there is no reason to go through any of that just for the dust seal.

I tore my front end apart a couple of years ago for inner oil seals and installed the "new style" dust seals then. They are still holding together.

Mine had the hula hoops on it when I first, got it. I removed them shortly after when I changed the U-joints, never had an issue, they aren't necessary.

Even if you replace them with newer upgraded versions they will still eventually fall out again

Everything eventually fails. I've had my axle out a few times and the new dust seal was a hula hoop in short order. This new version that I used last time is still intact 3 years later (50K+ miles).
