I've been running lug-centric wheels for over 10 years without issue. My wheel has a 3400 lb load rating and I bought a nice set of McGard lugs when I got the wheels.

If you go this route don't forget your spare. My spare is an OEM hub-centric wheel so I carry 8 OEM lug nuts in case I need to use my spare.

OK... I now have some numbers to play with. A 275mm wide by 33" tall tire can have 0mm offset with a level lift, but just stinkin' barely.

At that width, I must abandon all hope of ever having a clean mirror without the use of fender flairs. I was trying to keep Stinky closer to a classy stock look, but it always bothered my how those tires just don't fill the wheel well. The only way I can make the wheel well look right and not have rubber swell outside the fender was to get a skinny (8") 17" diameter rim with a +20mm offset and a super-skinny tall tire (like a LT 265/80 R 17). Tire makers don't have a market for those (as they would bend like a beach around corners, and sway in the draft of a Prius) no wonder I kept getting blank stares and lists.

Once I closed the "Unicorns R Us " website, I finally discussed this with the guy at Discount Tire. I guess he picked up that I was for real, because he grabbed a new rim I liked, grabbed a tire I like, threw them together, and mounted it in the front to test the clearance. The guy didn't have a sale - he MADE the sale. How awesome is that? Once I looked at the new arrangement in the front, I looked at that back tire/rim for comparison. My face turned beet red... because only then did I realize how much of a pu**y I made Stinky look before now.

Pics are coming... don't start the panty-rolling just yet.

If you go to any big tire store website (Tire Rack, Discount Tires), they have all the wheels listed by specs (8-170 bolt pattern, 18" rim, 9" wide, etc...). Once the options show up on the screen, the offset is listed next to the other specs.

One of my favorite features is to "preview" the wheel on our trucks, including the body style, color, and suspension height.

I had a 16" Raceline Raptor that Les Schwab sold me, and that was the last straw for me in regard to Stinky. Les Schwab has botched every attempt at dealing with my Superduty since I started taking Stinky there, and this lousy excuse of a wheel was what "drove" me to another tire store. The 16" raptor doesn't fit our front brake caliper, but I have a coworker that went with the 17"x9" Raptor and his truck looks fine. The offset is -12mm, the hub bore is 130mm and needs a hub ring. The 18" Raptor has a +20 offset, but you'd better install a skinny and/or short tire. There is nothing about the Raceline Raptor (other than looks) that is worthy of our trucks.

This is what I chose:

This must be nationwide. Discount Tire done me right on every vehicle I own. I bought a set of Michelin’s for my wife’s truck years ago from some other tire store because of a sale they had going. Punctured one, took it back and I couldn’t find my paperwork on them and surprisingly they had no record of me purchasing a road hazard warranty. Left mad and went straight to Discount Tire. They repaired the tire and gave me road hazard on all four for about 1/2 price of what they normally charge. Later replaced a tire that was not repairable, no questions asked and just had to buy a road hazard warranty for the new tire.

That is another reason I took off my factory 7" wheels with 285s on them...Discount Tire won't mount 285s on a 7" wheel and I didn't like going elsewhere for tires and tire service. I wanted to use Discount exclusively so I got a wheel and tire combination that made us both happy. I've never got service anywhere that compares to that of Discount Tire and I don't have to hang over their shoulders making sure they torque them properly and don't do stupid things like lifting the truck by the leaf springs which actually happened at another shop.

Couple of questions Rich.

1. Which tire size did you select for the new rims?

2. Does the rim come with a hole in the cap for the front hubs, or is that an optional cap?

Good load capacity on those wheels too. You'll be in good shape with those. X2 on the final tire size?

They look nice, now your truck looks kinda like mine. I really like the squared off look of the 275/70, the 18" wheels and along with the 08 mirrors my truck got quite a face lift errr side lift whatever. I'll be curious to see what pressure you run, I run 60 front and 55 rear unloaded. Once I get my TT I will have to adjust for that.

Stock in rear, X in front. 65 PSI all around. I used to ride 55 PSI in the rear, but my mileage went to hell. The weight of the canopy and the bed contents justifies the added pressure in the rear. I have to remove the front cap, plus I need a day of more light to get a better picture. I also need to visit my OBDII port to change the tire size - my speedo and odo went to hell.

Any chance you can get a measurement from the wheel well down to the ground (Front and Rear)?!
