background: i have a long history of past and one present vehicle(s) that started rusting and rotting at the driver side panel below the door and floorpans
most of this was being careless in older vehicles and
-getting in and out of said tow vehicle with wet (saltwater) shoes socks pantlegs feet etc
-getting in truck after wadefishing (wet up to waist)

so i actually wrote a procedure on how i might launch and recover a boat without getting saltwater in a nice truck
(one pair of tall rubber boots required)

-back boat +trailer into water at ramp
-exit vehicle, remove leather boots/shoes and put on rubber boots
-back or push boat off of trailer, dock boat
-remove rubber boots and put leather boots/shoes back on
-pull tow vehicle + trailer out and park it

upon returning to ramp
-dock boat
-back truck + trailer down into the water
-remove leather boots/shoes and put on rubber boots
-load boat and secure etc
-remove rubber boots and put on leather boots/shoes
-have a safe trip home

now i know a lot of you can launch and recover without getting your feet wet, sometimes i can, sometimes i can't

also i need a solution for if i have been swimming or wading from the boat which i do a lot
i guess i would need a towel and extra set of clothes or swim trunks and shirt

this may seem silly but im actually treating this like a hazardous material scenario

Half the time I can launch the boat without getting out of the truck just need a second person in the boat. I also don't have to deal with salt water launches.

 

I used to have my boat unhooked completely from the trailer and I used a long dock line and tied it off in the bed. I would back in and hit the brakes hard, the boat would pop off floating, I would grab the line, walk onto the dock and pull it in and tie it off. It was a very easy, quick and dry way to do it.
Loading was a different story, I would drive it onto the trailer, attach the winch cable, crawl onto the tongue and into the bed, jump out of the be onto the ground and into the truck.
