SRW F350 Flatbed on eBay.

There is a 1953 F350 flatbed for sale on eBay that has single rear wheels. I didn't know that was an option. Here is the link.

Yes, I know it was originally a Meadow Green truck and I do not have a 53. But I am not a buyer. I wish I could afford it (I can afford it but I'd like to stay married!) and I wish I had a shed to store it in.

It seems like a good buy. He told me the front tires could be 40 to 50 years old! The rears are 25 to 30 years old so the buyer will need to buy new rubber. It does have some nice features like the grille guard and the fog lights and the original headboard.

The outer rear wheels are missing, and that turn signal switch lever is ingenious - a windshield wiper arm.
That is one very nice truck!

Maybe, maybe not. In 1953 and 1954 the F-350 flatbed could be equipped with either five 17” single wheels or seven 16” DRWs. Both the 17” and 16” wheels are deeply dished and look to be DRW, but the 17” is described as a single. The 17” is a widow maker while the 16” is a locking side ring style. In 1955 and beyond the SRW F-350 got more traditional looking shallow dished 17s. Stu

Look more closely. I had to do a double take myself. I messaged the seller and asked him and he said they are SRW.
LOL. I noticed the wiper arm too.Necessity is the Mother of invention.

That is what I was thinking, Stu. I knew you would know for sure. Thanks. When I bought my 55 F350 I was pleased to find out that 16" wheels are not Widow Makers.

The way to know for certain would be to learn if the tires are 16” or 17”. Stu

Ok, I give. I see that the wheel studs are not long enough to accommodate dual wheels. Strange because all the one-ton SRW trucks I've seen have the steel disc wheels, not the offset Budd style. And I believe that is a Ford script flatbed because of the inboard riveted stake pockets.

That is a nice '53. Note also, the rear wheel centers are almost flush with the axle flange, instead of several inches of the hub showing thru the wheel center as in a DRW truck.

Good eye Mark. The 1953 catalog shows the SRW F-350 rear hubs are different part numbers than the DRW hub numbers. Stu

Id love to have it. I don't have a green 53. That part of Mass. is only 5 hours away..... But as I said in post 1, I'd like to stay happily married. And if I get a 53, I want a flathead! And it looks like it has WMs.
