Im thinking about putting disc brakes on my 53 f-100. I thought I saw a post here where the master cylinder was installed under the cab where the original one is. Is that possible and could I use the same brake pedal set up? Thanks for any info. This place rocks!
Yes it is possible and actually pretty easy to do. I installed mine in a day. I bought my kit from Mid Fifties and it had everything I needed to make the conversion. The only thing I wish I would have done is spent the extra money to switch the rear over to discs as well. Live and learn I guess.
Yes, you can do that but buy the right kit, disc/drum or disc/disc so you get the right residual check valve. Also you will want to install a remote fill.
The firewall mounted option is not bad either as they make pedal sleds with all the pedals mounted hanging which make carpet installation easier and cleaner. Also no remote fill is needed.
Here is a picture of an F100 with power brakes, from the bottom. I looked around a little, but didn't find one from the top.
The angle iron across the bottom of the frame is the rear transmission mount. It has nothing to do with the brake MC or booster mounting.
This uses the factory brake pedal. It would need the remote filler/reservoir, as it puts the MC below the seat area of the cab. Otherwise you have to crawl under the truck and use some kind of squeeze bottle for filling/topping off the MC.
I don't have any pics of it... but I cut a hole in the floor above the master Cylinder and made a cover plate for it instead of mounting a remote reservoir. I'm not putting carpet in just the mat and will make sure I can access it if needed.
