You need to change the solenoid body for an earlier one. The pump needs to come out and an orifice in the pump body changed from 0.250" to 0.030" diameter.
Thank you.
So can I use the solenoid body from the old 1998 or should I replace it with something else??
Any changes in electrical I get to look forward to?
You can use the old solenoid body. You may also need to use the old MLPS (Manual Lever Position Sensor) located where the shift cable attaches to the trans. I can't remember if they are different.

Thanks again. I've found a trans and I'm doing my best to research anything that needs to be done to it before they bolt it up into its new home. You've been very helpful
I've been told my several sources that I have a 4R100 trans in my '98 V10 Ford but now I'm being told that, according to the tag in my door jam it is an E4OD.
1) will a 4R100 swap with the E4OD or does it require modifications
2) Are all E4OD's the same, no matter what engines they were bolted to before, are they compatible and durable enough to be mated to a V10?
thanks again, I'm just trying to get it straight. I hate it when I buy the wrong transmission...
The real difference between an E4OD and a 4R100 is the name. In 1999 Ford renamed the E4OD to 4R100.
The early '99 4R100 was absolutely identical to the E4OD. In late '99 the 4R100 had some changes and are not directly compatible, but can be modified to work fine.
E4ODs were attached to small block engines, big block engines, diesels, and modular engines (5.4L and V10.) On;y the V10 version is compatible with the V10. The 5.4L version will bolt right up, but has a lower clutch count and won't last behind a V10. The others will not bolt to a V10.
Mark, I wanna drop a 01 5.4 in front of a 07 V10 tranny. I know it’ll shift hard, but what about survivability or longevity? I just got a 4r100 from a 05 6.0, but I’m doubtful about that swap behind the 5.4.
I have an early 99 6.8. Would I need to get another early 99, if I need to replace it?
OK, now ya went and done it! What is the cutoff date between early 1999 and late 1999. I changed the solenoid packs out on mine; and perhaps I put in the wrong ones. How would I know? TIA
It switched from early to late in January 1999. And yes, the solenoid bodies are different and not interchangeable. Either will bolt in, but the wrong one will not work right.
I have a 99 F250 7.3 that needs a replacement transmission, build date 3/98. I also have an e40d that was on a 1992 351w I acquired from another project. Can I use this to swap them? Thank you

Wrong bell housing, has to be a diesel E4OD, needs to be a 4R100 for the speed sensors that they added when they revamped the E4OD to 4R100.
I realize this has been neat to death. I'm trying to read all the posts. So here's my story.
I just bought an early 99 450 v10 rack body. Has a vibration at 40-50mph. Carrier bearing has been replaced. Trans tag says it's a 5.4 trans. So now I'm looking for a v10 trans for the truck to put it back to the right one at least. My question is. What trans mission from what year will replace it?
what I'm understanding is only an early 99 trans from a v10 works? Will an 01 work?
