HELP! Stock 99 F250, do they make a adapter for hitch!
Hi there, I need help and google has nothing along the lines of help I need to get a 48" extension for my truck so I can pull a tow dolly and a small kia rio car behind me, the extension is because I have a lance 11'3" camper, I went to buy a hitch and it was 2.5" I think as it would not fit in my stock 1999 Ford F250 hitch... I can't find an adapter anywhere online that will go from what I think is my 2" hitch to the 2.5 extension... do they sell them? Please if anyone knows and were they would sell them, Ive exhausted everything locally.

If not commercially available, but it would be very easy for a shop to fabricate. However, a 48" extension is one heck of a lever arm hanging off a hitch! Maybe try to find someone who has done something like this before. (I cut/fabricated a hitch about 8" longer and it worked fine. But that's way short of 48"!)

I've been around a couple of Torklift stacked double receiver - style extensions, looks like the best way to go to me. It does mean a new mount on the pickup, though. But they're solid - set one up on an OBS several years ago with a camper like yours, pulling a 3-horse BP trailer - was still beyond what the pickup was capable of, but the hitch worked well.

When you flat tow a dingy, there is no tongue weight involved. I'm not sure if that's also true for tow dollys or not. If it is, then you don't need to worry about downward force being magnified by the extension, you only need to worry about side to side force on turns. I'm pretty sure a Master Redneck Engineer could solve that with chains from the rear of the extension back to the truck frame on either side. You'd need turnbuckles on each side to get the reinforcing chains good and tight so the chains transfer the bulk of the side-to-side force to the truck frame. The extension would then only have to handle the forward and backward forces, which should be no problem. I think.

I tow the wife’s Civic all the time on a tow dolly, been as far north as Edmonton and down to Houston, from Washington State and the west coast to the Ississippi River. It only adds about 200 to 300 pounds of weight.thats not a lot but that 4’ Long lever will make a real big effect.
I’ve towed with those type of setups. I didn’t have any problems but had to work harder getting there.
My $0.02.
