RV Cabinet Design
I'm in the early planning stages for replacing the cabinets in my RV. The "wood" is pretty cheesy. The wood won't hold screws in certain spots so it's becoming difficult to keep the doors closed. The side-by-side has had enough body roll to allow the cab to contact the overhead cabinets along where the ATV is parked.
I was looking at the cabinets to see how they were fastened to the wall. The main fasteners that I was looking for are hidden. The only fasteners I could see are for a shelf. The cabinets have a false bottom as well as a false top. The false bottom I can understand, it allows low voltage wires to be run to the underside of the cabinets for lights without exposing the wires. The top has me baffled. I don't see any reason for a false top. Do you have any insight on that? The cabinets don't extend to the ceiling. There is a 6" gap between the cabinet and the ceiling that can be used for storage. That means that the main support for the cabinets has to be on the wall. I don't know where the light wiring is coming from, maybe from the wall or maybe coming down from the ceiling.

In my RV the false top and bottom are used to hide the fasteners to the wall & ceiling. The fasteners will still be hidden under the false top on the horizontal 1x1 that makes the top frame of the cabinet. I'm sure it also help as a cost saving by only having one set of cabinets and makes finishing out the inside easier. The wiring for the lights probably comes out of the wall and into the false bottom area.
