i have an 85 f250 2wd and from what I looked up I have the Dana 61 3.00 rear end. I just picked this truck up and I at first thought the brakes were locked up on the drivers side but I can pull the truck backwards and forwards and it spins but the problem is it seems like once it starts to have to pull any harder than just going forward and backwards on flat ground the right tire spins. It only has 81k miles on the truck, could it just be gear oil needs to be changed? Anybody else had this issue?
Did you find a tag on the axle? 3.00 would be an oddball ratio for a Dana 60, not sure on a 61, but unless you are talking about the car version in Mopars, 3.54 is as tall as they go, based on other posts here.
Have you checked the brakes on all 4 wheels? Gear oil issues will not cause this problem.
I looked at the door tag, the truck is suppose to be all original and by the great shape of it when I got it I believe it. The code for it was 32, when I looked it up the Dana 61 3.00 is what I found, but I do hope I'm wrong, it does seem very high especially for a 3/4 ton. If you can tell me what the 32 is for the 85 f250 that would be great. But at first I thought it was the driver side brakes locked up becsuse it started spinning when I tried to put it on the trailer, but I put it in reverse and it rolled back and then I was able to drive it up and onto the trailer but the right tire did spin when I stopped on the dovetail. Then when I went out to try it today I had it in gravel and backed up into the backyard and the right tire spun in the gravel the whole time but the drivers side wheel never scooted, it rolled the whole time. But in the back yard I could drive it backwards and forwards a good 50 yards til I got the the hill on each side and once I tried to drive up it would spin every time. I guess it could not be completely locked up but just enough it still allows it to roll some?
I went back and looked again, I looked at the codes on blue oval trucks website. It had 32 as dana/4.10 but it just had under year/vehicle ecoline, the right under it was another 32 and it had Dana 61/3.00 and black for the year/vehicle. But I scrolled down and it had 32 listed again under more codes and it just said non-posi dana/4.10. I'd sure like for one to just flat out say 1985 f250 axle code 32 is this.
