Really!?! Typically, self tappers have a cutting edge. I tried for about 15 minutes, trying to get that thing started before I decided to just tap it. MUCH easier.

All is well.

I installed the OEM kit. I took the advise from a video I saw where the tailgate was lifted out and placed inside the bed of the truck (on a soft blanket) while the wife held it in place while I swapped out the tailgate piece. Did not have to remove or unplug any wires. Also took the advice to start the lower piece from the other side first. Those two pieces if info made it very simple and quick.

Well, even after contacting Tasca in an attempt to stop my incorrect order the wrong parts arrived today. Called and got a RMA and the parts will be going back. Prior to making the call, I did some internet work and here's what I found. Maybe this info will help others in the future.

The first part # listed is correct for the dampener.
The 2nd part # is for the left/non-dampened side. I found a schematic on Tasca's site which shows a different part # for the right/dampened side. Ford lists it as being "w/remote control". HC3Z-99430B38-B Roller, RIGHT 6.75 FOOT BOX, W/ REMOTE RELEASE

I couldn't find it on line. It came with the Ford Damper kit. Perhaps a call to Ford dealer parts dept?
If you delete "SUB" from the end of the part #, the remainder shows up in numerous places. It appears that Ford uses it for strut/gas spring/dampener mounting in various places on multiple vehicles.

Tasca offers the kit for $57.75, just pennies cheaper than Fairway but the shipping for me is $11.12...a bit more expensive than Amazon, so that's the way that I'm going.

I'm a fan of Tasca and have ordered parts from them in the past. The only problem with ordering from them is the shipping cost. Tasca is in Rhode Island and I'm in Colorado. So shipping tends to be a bit pricey.

Got my OEM installed today. Piece of cake with help with the tailgate. Great idea to run the bolt in backward to build threads. Love it.

The TASCO part number I put out are incorrect, or Tasco shipped them wrong. Either way, I received a hinge and stud with no 'roller' for the damper. Just reminding everyone so they don't have the same issue and have to return parts. Fairway Ford came through with the kit and it works great.
