1987 Bronco lost electrical power to everything ! please help

im new to the thread, trying to figure out what is going on with my bronco... Long story short, im in the process of restoring a 1987 full size Bronco from New Mexico... Yesterday i was working on the rear tailgate window, the key switch works but the in-dash switch will not, so i have the dash apart and the rocker switch disconnected from the harness... I stuck a jumper wire in the pigtail to see if i could get the rear window to work, when i did that i got a quick spark... Everything electrical was working prior, now i have absolutely no power to anything... No headlights, interior etc, no starter, no power to any of the fuses, the fuel pump will not kick on... ive checked fusible links with a test light, they all seem to be ok... any suggestions ?

I would remove and check the main power and ground cables. They are probably old and worn out. At a minimum, removing and cleaning both ends will eliminate that major point from the list. You've also got fuses inside the engine bay and in the cab where your left knee would be, check all those fuses. That's most likely where the blown fuse is.

I will second the power wires. I had the same issue. There are 2 smaller gauge ground wires that attach to the neg battery terminal. Not the 2 main power and grounds. The ends were bad on mine. This was an intermittent problem until I finally realized what was happening. They actually appeared good. I cut off the ends and put new connectors on. No problems since.

I would try disconnecting the rocker switch you were working on and then see if you have power. You mentioned getting a spark when you connect to it so perhaps that switch is grounding out everything. I know it sounds crazy but there are all sorts of stories on here about how a burnt out taillight makes all the lights go haywire.
