Thumbs up Marijuana Now Legal In Canada

Canada is legalizing cannabis at midnight.

More than 40% of all U.S. opioid overdose deaths in 2016 involved a prescription opioid, with more than 46 people dying every day from overdoses involving prescription opioids.

Number of deaths due to overdosing on weed to date: 0.

Looks like we're gunna let Canada run away with a multi billion dollar industry.

I say good for them, maybe all the useless stoners will follow them and cross the border. I have never known anyone who smoked weed to be very successful in life.

I say if people are going to use either way,any drug at all, then it should be well regulated.People who use drugs shouldn't be criminalized and people who misuse and abuse drugs should be given help, not jailed. In this case here with this drug,it should of never been illegal in the first place.Alcohol is many, many, many times more dangerous than weed will ever be.Opioids even far more still, many times over both combined.
Looks like my tribe is looking to get into the market.I hope they are treated fair.

Recreational use of marijuana has been legalized or decriminalized in many states...including Massachusetts. While the first legal "Pot Shop" has yet to open...they are coming very soon. The Commonwealth...as well as individual cities and towns...will benefit from the tax revenues generated. How much will be realized obviously hasn't been determined. Of course...the tax rate may be so high that the black market for the product will remain strong. Medical use of marijuana...with proper permitting...has been legal for years.

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. -- Canada's first-ever legal purchase of recreational cannabis has been made in Newfoundland and Labrador, just after midnight local time. The historic first sale marks a major shift in drug policy and makes Canada one of the few countries globally to regulate and legalize marijuana for adult use.Stores in the country's easternmost province were the first to open at 12:01 a.m. local time, ahead of brick-and-mortar outlets in other provinces and territories.

First legal purchase of recreational pot made in Canada at Newfoundland store

Why can't they just legalize it, and stay the hell out of it, and leave people the hell alone? Why is legalization always contingent on the government confiscating people's wealth?

Weed itself, is kind of stupid. Yes there are successful people who use it regularly, but that's not the way to bet.

Officials said their approach to recreational cannabis when it becomes legal Wednesday will be consistent with how the parks and protected areas treat the possession and consumption of alcohol."All relevant provincial, territorial or municipal legislation and regulations will apply in all national parks, national historic sites, national marine conservation areas and historic waterways within a given province, territory or municipality," said Marie-Helen Brisson, a national spokeswoman for Parks Canada."Consumption of cannabis will be permitted in campsites," said Brisson.

Hikers in some provinces -- including Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec -- will be allowed to smoke on hiking trails and in the backcountry.

Campers will be able to smoke cannabis at campsites in Canada's national parks

People gathered at a concert hall in Toronto to watch the “bud drop” at the stroke of midnight, in celebration of the legalization on Wednesday of recreational cannabis use in Canada.

Canada Legalizes Recreational Marijuana, and a National Experiment Begins

Tilray

Shares of Tilray (TLRY), the Canadian-based company that cultivates and distributes medical cannabis and cannabinoids, have gone on a wild ride this year. Since it began trading in July as a public company in the U.S. on the Nasdaq stock exchange, it has soared more than 800 percent. But it slumped 4.4 percent Tuesday and is down more than 7 percent Wednesday.

Cronos Group

Toronto-based Cronos (CRON) sells both medicinal and recreational weed. It dubs its pot for recreational use "Spinach." Cronos shares are up nearly 50 percent this year. In early trading Wednesday they were down more than 8 percent.

Canopy Growth

Canopy Growth (CGC) is another Canadian company that focuses on the sale of medical cannabis. Its products, which include oils, soft gel capsules and hemp, treat things like chronic pain, seizures and nausea. Its shares are up more than 130 percent this year, despite tumbling nearly 7 percent Tuesday. Shares were down nearly 5 percent Wednesday.

Aurora Cannabis

Aurora Cannabis (ACB/Canda), a licensed producer of medicinal marijuana in Canada, saw its shares rally more than 510 percent from its 52-week low in October 2017 to yesterday's most recent high. Still, the stock has given back a big chunk of those gains and is up 46 percent in 2018.

ETFMG Alternative Harvest ETF

Investors who want to invest in a broad basket of weed-related stocks can do so via the ETFMG Alternative Harvest ETF (MJ). This exchange-traded fund is up 3.1 percent in 2018. Shares slumped by more than 5 percent Wednesday.

An NDP member has already tabled a bill giving amnesty to anyone with a criminal record for possession. Even though our courts are common law and have been dismissing people cases of simple possession for decades. This amnesty will allow people who committed more serious offenses and made plea bargains eligible to travel to the United States.
