Hot Water Valve - Elbow

Hot Water Valve - Elbow
Im looking at my diagrams and noticed the hot water valve in the intake manifold mounts into a 45* elbow. part number 353476-5100 II-173 says its a 3/8-18 elbow. Cant find this part and wanted to know is this part needed? Mine the valve is threaded straight into the intake manifold. Not sure if the elbow is needed or if all vehicles even had the elbow from the factory.

3/8-18 is a standard pipe thread size. Fittings should be available at any well stocked hardware store. You will likely find them in black iron, galvanized, and brass. I am almost certain that this elbow is not required, except possibly for a neater or more efficient routing of the hose. If everything fits without the elbow, I would say don't worry about it.

yep thats why i am curious. I got a brass 45 degree fitting but when i put my original 56 intake back on i want to be sure if it had the 45 or not as my goal is to have the car correct as it was built by ford.

Well that's good to know. I put the old one that was in the back of the car on as that one seemed to function but it still will let a little coolant by just need to wait till I am able to get a replacement. Only thing is that must be a '55 Yblock in the photo you posted cause the fuel line looks like the 55 setup. Also might be why mine looks so different as you cant see my heater valve as its completely covered up by the air filter assembly.
