Upgrading to self adjusting brakes

New guy here.
I have a 1963 Unibody and I would like to upgrade the brakes to self adjusting. I tried self adjusting kits from a 1964 but only way to hook up gear is if I put the hardware on the front( secoundary) and not the rear (primary brake shoe. I don’t think I will get enough shoe movement to adjust. Any better solutions.
thanx in advance
ken

Maybe you need more 64 parts? Either shoes or shoes+backing plate. I haven't done this or anything, but that's what I'd look into first.

I have 64 adjusting kits but discovered the 63 backing plate has slots for the star on the wrong side.

I would just rebuild them and leave them alone. Those self adjusters don't work all that great anyway. Unless you are doing a lot of heavy loads and hard stops you shouldn't have to readjust them more than once a year.
