My neighbor from downstate that is up here deer hunting, stopped over today. He's involved with the Ranger as a sort of test engineer. Come to find out, this Ranger is only going to be a 2 year run, then in 2021, a completely different one will be coming out. Didn't have time to get into specifics today, but I plan on picking his brain before he goes home. He's driven both the gas and diesel versions, and he's impressed with them. I guess the 2.3 really cranks, and the diesel isn't much of a slouch either.
I guess it makes sense. The "new" ranger coming out this year is a 10 year old design that's probably due for replacement overseas.
LOL, ya, I think I might set my sights on a 2021. That likely will be the second year on that platform since the Bronco is coming out next year. Makes sense in my little mind since the Bronco and Ranger will both be coming out of Wayne.
while you're picking his brain ask him when the diesel will be released and when the Ranger Raptor will be available!
He sneaked off on me, he'll be back next month for gun season. I plan on corralling him and get more info. He's a very interesting guy to get info out of.

Hm?????
He ditched you for a reason! You wont get nothing! lol lol lol lol
Seems like a waste of time/money to me to prepare this new truck for the American market just to replace it with an all new version after only 20 model years. But that means by 2021 or '22 I should be able to pick up a used '19-20 model for a reasonable cost. Maybe even get a new, left-over '20 as the dealers are trying to sell those as cheap as possible to make room for the '21's. I'm hoping too that the 2021 truck will have a wider selection of powertrain choices. You all can get your diesel if you want it, I can get my N/A V6 and go home happy.
I'll probably be buying a used 2019-2020 F350 instead of a Ranger at that point. Why even bother with the baby truck when 500/1000 can be had for less than full retail new? Worst-case I'll be shopping 2018 F-150s with the 2.7L for less than the Ranger sticker. i'm not impressed with the Ranger thus far - I can get lower-end EB performance in a larger chassis for less apparently, just seeing IRL results from the current F150s.
There is no case to be made for cost of Ranger vs full-size, consumers who want a Ranger, Tacoma or Colorado want the smaller truck regardless of cost. They already know going in it’s not significantly cheaper because it’s a small truck.

But it's not a small truck, that's why it;s not significantly cheaper. A 7/8 size truck will likely cost 7/8 the price of an F-150.
I don’t know about actual size difference 7/8 etc... but I’ve been in a 3rd gen Tacoma recently, actually in and all around it and it’s smaller ...really smaller. I get that it’s not what the old Ranger was sizewise but it is still a small truck.
I've only seen the new Ranger in person once last March it was a crew cab model. I would say its very compatible to the 06-10 Explorer Sport Trac, which is in every way much smaller then my 2011 F-150 super crew. Much easier to park for sure! (not that I'm complaining)
I’m just hoping the wife likes it if not then hopefully the Bronco will light her fire ... just not sure I can hold out for ( 2020 Bronco ) replacing her ‘01 Suzuki Grand Vitara XL7 seriously though it’s been a great lil car just old now and need to put her in something more modern.

When the Colorado came out, I had a friend shopping for one. He could get a Extended cab, 4-door Z71 Silverado for $37,000 after $10k in manufacturer and dealer savings. A crew cab Colorado Z71 was $38,000 with $0 in savings. I imagine Ford will do the same with the Ranger, likely selling them near sticker for the first year. Then by year 2 they'll be had for about $5k under sticker.
