78 ? f600 4X4

Approx 2 years ago I purchased this truck at a local estate sale. It is titled as a 1978. About that time I came across FTE &joined & purchased( paper) parts,service, & 4 big sheets of wiring diagrams , almost got a hernia from lifting the two parts books! (faxonautolit). My door tag: F66 F V C E 0734

158K F661 GA8 M 55J
24,000 558019
When looking up the F engine code in the "1978 Truck Shop Manual Volume 2 Engine" the only F code I find is in the 700-900 series and N600 -C600 parcel ???
Is the info to deciper my year model hidden somewhere in this 100# pile of paper? If so please don't be nasty with me for not finding it because the last couple of years have been busy! The air cleaner hsg. has a 389 XD decal. The bar code tag on the r.h. rocker cover is faded out but the emissions info tag is good on the side of the l.h. rocker cover. Of course the air cleaner & covers could be from another motor.
SO: what year is my truck ? what motor do I have?
Bill: would you be willing to tutor us guys who have parts manuals on how to better use them ?
anybody out there with good knowledge on the electrical sys. of 73-78 f 600 willing to exchange/ answer ?
This winter I will try to learn how to post pictures of this project . My 64 year old brain is wired analog
THANK YOU

VIN: F66FVCE0734 / WB: 158 / COLOR: K / TYPE/GVW: F661 / BODY: GA8 / TRANS: M / AXLE: 55J / MAX GVW LBS: 24000 / DSO: 558019
F66 = F600 4WD (gas).

F = 391 4V Xtra Duty FT engine.

V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant.

CE0734 = 1978.

158" Wheelbase.

K = Bright Red.

F661 = F600 4WD (gas), 24,000 lbs. GVWR

GA8: GA = Black Heavy Duty Vinyl / 8 = 81A Standard Cab.

M = Clark model 285V 5 Speed Direct.

55J:

55 = Rockwell model H172 Single Speed Rear Axle / 7.17-1 / 17,500 lbs. Rear Axle Capacity.

J = Ford 5,000 lbs. Capacity Front Axle with Power Steering.

24,000 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

558019:

55 = St. Louis MO Ford District Sales Office, where the original selling dealer oredered the truck from.

8019 = Domestic Special Order number, truck ordered special by the original purchaser, not "bought off the lot."

You could have done this yourself, because...

I decoded all this jazz using the 1973/79 600/900 Truck Series Parts Catalog (on a hipoparts.com C/D). A lot easier than hefting those heavy paper parts catalogs!

Since VIN series code: F66 & TYPE/GVW code: F661 decodes to a F600 4WD with a gas engine, you know it doesn't have a diesel.

389 is a detuned for smog 391. Ford doesn't even mention it in the VIN engine decode.

C/D pic: Scroll down to VIN engine code F =
