Insurance?

Insurance?
What does everyone do for insurance/registration? Having an 81 leaves open the possibility of classic/antique plates, though I know that varies state x state, and that can be a big headache. Anyone insured in NY?
For background, this is not a daily, it won't be going on long roadtrips (that's what the other car is for), mostly just puttering around the greater NYC area.

A 37 year old vehicle should be insured for liability only. If you can even get full coverage you will pay more than what the vehicle is worth in a short amount of time. Unless the truck is fully restored or a custom build (keep every receipt to prove the value) full coverage is just a waste of money.

What affect, if any, does the Historical Vehicle designation have with your insurance? Is it only to get the Historic plates as you mentioned or is there more to it? I know in my state (Idaho) that I can get Classic plates and they have certain vehicle requirements such as age and whatnot and even Vintage plates are available if your vehicle is super old, but I've never heard anything about insurance mentioned. Interesting.

I carry full coverage on mine, been the liability route only and got stuck with no transportation, NO THANK YOU.
Full coverage age on my 95 is still las than half of what my F250 or the wife’s Civic. And that’s with a $250.00 deductibles from Farmers.
Really comes down down to what you’re comfortable with, I err on the side of caution.

This is definitely something I've been curious about. After having all the body work done, restored the interior, had a ZF5 rebuilt and swapped in, built up a high performance 300, installed a Holley Sniper EFI, etc.... I don't want someone smacking into it and have some insurance company only give me a couple thousand for blue book value.

I just went w/ Hagerty agreed value on my 66 and my 95.
On the '95, there is no mileage limitations (within reason, most collectable vehicles are only driven <3500 mi/ yr) and being newer than an 89, they will allow it to be a season driver (drive to work etc).
95 Bronco insured at 9k costs about $165 per year. If I turn it into a seasonal driver they will allow me to drive to work etc. for 5 months a year up to 5000 miles for $42 additional.
The problem with most agreed value policies is that they will not allow you to drive to work or run common errands in the covered vehicle.
My policy language mentions public road use only - no coverage if off road or in any type of competition.
Also, if your policy is rated as being garage kept, that is where they expect it to be while not in use.
This type of policy sure isn't for everybody and may not be worth the limitations to many.
Perhaps a vehicle appraisal and a standard ACV type full coverage policy is better if you want to really use your Bronco. Probably run about $500/year instead but you can do what you want with it.

If the other party is at fault, their insurance should make you whole.
With such an old vehicle as a DD, such as you and I have, you might be better served if you had a back up vehicle for times when your DD needs repairs.
If one of my vehicles is worth less than $5000 it gets dropped down to liability only because it is just not worth spending money to insure such a small amount of value.
(I'm not saying that yours is worth less than 5k....)
