Well, what broke, from what I can see, is the rubber grommet that fits into the hole on the gas pedal.
However, I noticed something off. If I floor the accelerator pedal or push the accelerator arm fully open, it does't snap back until you give it a small tug. I made a video of it here:
I suppose that could be due to the accelerator cable binding up in the sheath somehow.

sure seems that way. to test binding cable, pop the cable off the pump and see if the throttle hangs with just pushing the pump arm. my bet is no.
on my truck when the cable broke at the pedal i found a small nut and crimped it onto the cable with a pair of vice grips. worked for the three days it took me to get home so i could fix it properly.
