Just because the Carpenter bumper has a C8TZ prefix, does not mean it's a Ford step bumper for a 1968/72.
1973/79 bumpers are different than 1968/72, 1980/97 bumpers are different than 1973/79.
Does the Carpenter bumper resemble the parts catalog pic in post #13? No, it does not. No 1960's/70's step bumper has 3 embossed lines on its face.
1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog lists two step bumpers: C8TZ-17906-A & C9TZ-17906-A that the description says "Deluxe" which means it's chrome.

The rear bumper brackets
When the bumper brackets are moved back 12 Iniches it helps the bumper support the back of the camper .with trump any thing made in china is illegal. That Chinese rear bumper probably won't t support 50 lbs let alone the back of a heavy slide in camper.it also probably isn't even safe.

If you wanted to get a real C9 chrome bumper, try the JY, but I suspect Ford didn't make and sell that many. You can go to the JY, and find a C8 painted bumper, strip and get it rechromed, but expect to pay $$$$ for doing it. One thing about chrome the part loses 20-30% of its strength due to hydrogen embrittlement as part of the process. One of the reasons, impact sockets are not chromed, besides the reason the chrome turns into nasty sharp edges when broken.

Look at the pic in post #13. The brackets bolt to the bumper, then to the frame rails, so how the hell can the bumper slide?
Fordification has a 1972 F100/350 accessory brochure, look at it...the step bumper is pictured on page 7 ... but it does not slide.
Ford never made any bumper that slid, including for the 1973/79 F350 Super Camper Specials.
It's possible that RV dealers made brackets that slid that could be used with Ford step bumpers, but I'm not familiar with same.

Read page 30 of the 72 price list. At the right bottom of the page is the components of the CS package. Nowhere does it mention bumper and brackets as part of the package. Ford did not make the RV bumper brackets. That was installed by an RV dealer anytime during it's 47 year old life. Were you the owner during it's entire 47 year lifespan?
