Does the Carpenter bumper resemble the parts catalog pic in post #13? No, it does not. No 1960's/70's step bumper has 3 embossed lines on its face.

1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog lists two step bumpers: C8TZ-17906-A & C9TZ-17906-A that the description says "Deluxe" which means it's chrome.
Bill, I was just trying to point out that he has a fake (nonstock, aftermarket) bumper using DC as an example of what he presently could have installed on his CS. Not that the DC one was a completely stock example of a 72 step bumper. I know what a Ford step bumper looks like since ordering one in December 1971, and owning and using three other Fords with them.

What in the world? ALL rear bumpers were optional, so if your truck never had one, it wouldn't make it illegal!

The rear bumper brackets

When the bumper brackets are moved back 12 Iniches it helps the bumper support the back of the camper .with trump any thing made in china is illegal. That Chinese rear bumper probably won't t support 50 lbs let alone the back of a heavy slide in camper.it also probably isn't even safe.

You are taking this harder than necessary. It may be a good truck. I haven't seen pictures of it yet. It is just not Barrett Jackson material as someone might have expressed. Enjoy it!

If you wanted to get a real C9 chrome bumper, try the JY, but I suspect Ford didn't make and sell that many. You can go to the JY, and find a C8 painted bumper, strip and get it rechromed, but expect to pay $$$$ for doing it. One thing about chrome the part loses 20-30% of its strength due to hydrogen embrittlement as part of the process. One of the reasons, impact sockets are not chromed, besides the reason the chrome turns into nasty sharp edges when broken.

Ford camperspecial bumper

If I could one of the real camper special sliding bumper then I wouldn't have to have a 3000 .00 custom bumper made.camperspecial with campers were supposed to get a sliding rear bumper.to support the camper .otherwise a camperspecial isn't a camper special.

The factory bumper does not slide...repeat: DOES NOT SLIDE!

Look at the pic in post #13. The brackets bolt to the bumper, then to the frame rails, so how the hell can the bumper slide?

Fordification has a 1972 F100/350 accessory brochure, look at it...the step bumper is pictured on page 7 ... but it does not slide.

Ford never made any bumper that slid, including for the 1973/79 F350 Super Camper Specials.

It's possible that RV dealers made brackets that slid that could be used with Ford step bumpers, but I'm not familiar with same.

The bumper had receiver tubing welded to the bottom of the frame then smaller tubing slid into that

Look at 73 sliding rear bumper for camper special. My bumper brackets are 5 feet long when extended 4 feet out from the frame .to support the camper.

But, those are not factory brackets. Since we cannot see the actual bumper, it may not be a Ford bumper either.

Read post #42 again, I added some info.

Read page 30 of the 72 price list. At the right bottom of the page is the components of the CS package. Nowhere does it mention bumper and brackets as part of the package. Ford did not make the RV bumper brackets. That was installed by an RV dealer anytime during it's 47 year old life. Were you the owner during it's entire 47 year lifespan?
