Oil Dipstick Mount on Oil Pan

I was removing the passenger side valve cover and as I was attempting to loosen the bolt where the oil dipstick mount is attached to the tube, it started twisting. The torque was enough to pop off the outer ring at the oil pan where the dipstick tube enters the oil pan. And the worse news the mount where the dipstick connects into and is held on by that outer ring, also popped out and is now sitting somewhere in my oil pan. I know I cannot get the oil pan off without removing the engine. Anybody had a similar problem and was able to get the part out to the hole to reconnect it? I drained the oil and I ordered a borescope camera so I can attempt to see where it's at in the pan. I'm able to get a magnet pickup tool in the side hole and move it around but I wasn't lucky enough to grab it. I'm assuming it is metal and should stick to it? Anybody have any suggestions or solutions other then engine removal?

I'm okay spending the $300 as it beats the cost of removing the engine. However, can I leave the dipstick mount in the oil pan without damaging anything?

They say you can and quite a few have used the golden nugget with good results.

I was reading the Q&A on their site for that part and it says you can just drop it in the oil pan with no problems. The only recommendation is to remove the oring first. Unfortunately I cannot as my fell into the pan without me wanting it to.

That's a good idea. Anyone see any issues with cutting a hole and damaging anything internally during the process?

IMO it’s not worth that hassle , never mind the small metal shavings you’ll introduce to your engine, for what? To save $300??
I installed the Golden nugget too, no regrets... FYI, the truck will hemorrhage oil if you run it without a good seal down there. I made a video of of it and hemorrhaging is the perfect word...

My outer ring stripped and wouldn't hold the oil in any more, so I installed the Golden Nugget. No regrets.

It's made of a aluminum diecast material...so, no, a magnet won't pick it up.

Maybe a small child’s hand will fit through the hole and fish it out. . Or maybe I am just crazy.

The bigger question...why is that big hole even on the side of the oil pan in the first place?

Dern, I forgot how much that new style adapter costs! Perhaps a pair of long needle nose pliers or one of those flexible grabby things may be able to help?

When the time comes to do mine I'll be designing and machining my own fix (last oil change it wasnt even a Class 1 leak yet, but it's getting there).

My only worry at this point is the oring inside the oil pan. My borescope comes tomorrow so I'm hoping I can see well enough inside to at least locate the oring. I have a flexible claw grabber that I could fish it out with if I can locate it. Fingers crossed. I will post my outcome. Thank you all for the quick responses.

I'll bet the oring is still on the bung. Drain your oil and see if you can get a look down into the pan, as you may be able to see the bung. Then fish it back up and put a new nut on it.
