I should have spilt that up. The other place wasn't offering the HD4R100, it was for them to rebuild the transmission and upgrade it and with that plus R&R they quoted him $2800 over the phone. Once he heard that, plus the people who knows that went with that shop, I feel he's already made up his mind. I'm trying to keep him from jumping the gun like he did with injectors and tunes. I told him about Rosewood and DP, but there are others next thing I know, he's saying he's going to order from them.

So the shop he took his truck to yesterday looked everything over externally, then hooked up their reader and pulled every code and see what it's doing. Almost every code they can find is transfer case related, not transmission code. And they reset all the codes and then took it for a drive and they all came back on immediately and during the drive there wasn't any signs of the transmission having issues. The reverse went out on him again yesterday and the guy who talked to said the transfer case having issues could cause that. He said he was reading the codes that we're popping up and said they we're transfer case circuit codes from the GEM.

It certainly is NOT the mechanical diode. No 1999 truck had a mechanical diode, those were only in part of the 2001 model year.

There is no such thing. your choices are a 4R100 or do A LOT of modifications.

I recommend fixing the transfer case issues and then seeing if that also fixed the transmission issues. I think it's likely that it will fix them.

I agree. We did his injectors this weekend. And after an issue with the driver side UVCH, we we're up and running. While driving it wants to stay in 2nd a lot so I told him he should as soon as he can, go back to that guy and have him diagnose it deeper and find the electrical issue with the transfer case (or whatever it may be).

So my dad finally brought his truck back in to have it inspected and diagnosed more throughly. Transmission is done, lots of metal shavings and pieces in the pan. Transfer case is also going to need a rebuild. Not sure if he got a price quote for it all or not. Also not sure if he interested in that HD4R100 from Ford or not. For some reason he really likes the place he went to. If he goes with them we shall see what happens. He was referred to the place from a customer of his who has had one of his 4R100's built by the guy and said it's going strong still.
