Which ELC coolant do you recommend

After reading the anti freeze flush threads I’m still confused about which of the EC1 coolants my 2001 X 7.3 should be flushed with. I have no idea what is in it now and would like to start clean. It seems the Rotella line has multiple option. Can y’all shed some light on which one is recommended.

I use the Rotella extended life...but not the 50/50 mix the concentrate. Easy to get at Tractor Supply.

I went with the Delo. Longest service life.

Essentially I will never have to do flush n fill again. There is no way the engine and all components will last until the Delo is due for replacement without needing a drain. Done

I plan on not doing a flush fill ever again. I will go with the Delo as well.

Until you reach the 8 year life mark for the coolant (8 year or 750k miles, or with the extender it's 10 years and 1 million miles) , like I did with my Excursion a couple years back and I had to flush and refill with a new batch of Delo.

IF I get to another 8 yrs without the need for a drain...I'll use the Delo additive for 2 more years.

IF, I get to 10 yrs with out a drain, I will throw a party and gladly do another drain n fill.

I really do not expect a 17 year old drive train to get to either of those milestones. Even with the full rebuild it got last year. Perhaps I will be pleasantly surprised.

Honestly, when I did my initial ELC flush and fill all those years ago, I didn't think about he longevity time-wise. I didn't think I'd have the Ex that long to be honest.

The wife wants to drive it into the grave though, so I'm sure I'll be doing another ELC flush and fill here again in 5 or 6 years.

Any standard diesel oil will be fine. Dino or synth, your choice in my opinion. Others feel more strongly than I do about this.

Transmission is only one choice, Mercon V for your 4R100 transmission. Any brand, as long as it say's Mercon V spec fluid, not a fluid that "meets" the needs for transmissions using Mercon V. Look for the Ford spec rating is you're unsure.

Stewart

Edit: Here's an example of wording on a bottle of transmission fluid you don't want to use: https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/NCA75207

If you look close, the bottle says "Recommended for Mercon V applications" Nowhere does it say it is a Mercon V spec fluid.

I have a new to me 2001 X 7.3 4x4. Like the op don't know what coolant is in it. The PO put a new radiator in and hoses and new coolant. All I know is it is green. I have owned other 7.3 powerstokes and done the flush and used tractor supply elc coolant and one other brand and they were pink. Not sure I can rely on color though. Should I flush and use the good stuff or can I just put some additive in?

I don't like using the traditional "green" coolant in a 7.3L (unless of course it's a E99 that requires the traditional "green") and at the very least, I would flush and refill with the Ford "gold" coolant (Zerex G-05 equivalent), but that's just me.

If it's a truck you plan on keeping for a long time, you may want to consider an Organic Acid Tech, Extended Life Coolant. A true OAT based ELC with last 5 to 10 years and 500k miles to 1 million miles, depending on the brand of ELC you use.

Check out the information thread I put together regarding coolants for our 7.3L here: Gooch's Coolant Flush Procedure and In-Depth Coolant Information - FTE

Stewart,

Hopefully this is the right stuff. I ordered 4 gallons of concentrate.
