replacing 2 broken rear wheel studs...
hello guys, I have a 2001 4x4 lincoln navigator im sure this topic has been discussed before..i simply cant find it...I removed center cap yesterday from driver side rear wheel to find 2 sheared off studs... so i turned off air suspension and jacked up left rear ..took tire and disk brake caliper off, disk and with some effort pounded out the 2 broken studs. As i am sure u are all aware ..there isnt suffiecient amount of room to put new studs back in...even after removing emergency brake shoes...I noticed 4 bolts holding dust plate but not sure how that would help...ive never taken off a axel and i sincerly hope that there is another solution...PLEASE PLEASE HELP AS I HAVE TO GO TO WORK TOMORROW ....THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR TAKING THE TIME TO HELP ME...IT REALLY IS APPRECIATED...MORE THAN U KNOW!!!

2 broken rear studs 2001 lincoln nav
I read those threads and i saw the 4 bolts and 2 rivits holding the dust cover on..however since that thread was for 2007 Nav and mine is 2001 ..wasnt sure if that would apply

Update....after removing the emergency brake connection plates and rubber gramet two rivits connecting the dustplate and then the 4 bolts I was able to finagle the dustplate around to where the two sheared off studs were located, and using the entry space where the emergeny brake brass plates made connection to the emergency brake shoes...i was just able to fit and line up the new studs..thanks for the heads up on the previous post regarding this issue..Now i just have to remember how to put everything back correctly...lol

Pull the rear diff cover, will have to rotate the diff around to find the bolt that holds the diff pin in place. Remove poly, remove pin, push axle inwards, remove c-clip, and pull axle out. Replace axle seals and broken studs, installation is the reverse of removal, and fill with gear oil and limited slip additive if equipped.
