Advise Please: 2003 & 2005 Parts Swapping

Hello. I'm looking at purchasing a "parts" truck. I have a 2003 6ltr diesel 4x4 automatic short box. Should I or should I not buy the 2005 extended box and stay with another 2003? Both are XLT’s Super Duty 4 doors. Engine swap, engine piece parts, brake disks, rear ends etc. Many thanks.

I "think" that 05 and up it is hub-centric.
The HPOP is not the same. But if your going to do a full engine swap that won't be
an issue other than extending the plug for the ICP.
Aksi 05 and later will have front coil springs.

I think the document is in the Tech Folder listing how the years differ.

All model year trucks are hub centric, the ‘05+ years use a different brake system due to larger tires, not necessarily better imo, and different wheels along with the suspension changes. So axles don’t interchange without the brakes and wheels.

Jack I was under the understanding that you could not put a pre 05 wheel on a later truck.
In other words can I put a 2003 wheel on a 2007 or not?

Sean, the earlier design is not compatible with the later brakes. All are hub centric though.

So right idea on compatibility but wrong terminology..
I think he should be looking for a truck that is in his year range for part fitment and usability.
So that would put him in a 2003~2004 Short bed crew cab. But he could move up to one of the
Lariats and swap in some of the power goodies.

@4x4 Fun I forgot to say Welcome to FTE. If you can;t find something or need some help just ask.

For suspension, brakes, and wheels, yep. Unless your willing to do heavy suspension work.

If you can get a parts truck for the right price my advice would be to go for it. I have a 2006 F350 parts truck and as the others have mentioned the some of the components are different there are a lot of little pieces that will save you money. I have pulled turbo intercooler boots, glow plug relay etc off to keep my 2005 Excursion( which has a 2004 factory motoe) going..

I do have to say I have a rob Peter to pay Paul truck.
It will be going back together here soon if someone does not make me an offer I can't pass up on.
But for the most part I have been putting parts back on it more than taking them off.
